WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – After a successful trip to Annapolis, MD the Monmouth University men's tennis team returns to action by traveling to New York City to take on the Columbia University Lions. The Hawks (3-8) and the Lions (7-1) will begin competition at 4:00 PM on Saturday at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center.
Team Notables
MU enters the match on Saturday on a two match winning streak. The last time the Hawks were in action, they picked up a 4-2 win over Navy and a 4-0 sweep over Villanova.
Junior
Srdjan Jakovljevic earned his first MAAC Player of the week honor by recording two singles wins and a doubles win over Navy and Villanova.
Scouting the Columbia Lions
Columbia is riding the highest national team ranking - in program history, as well as the highest ever nationally ranked IVY League school with the Lions checking in at No.5 in the latest national team rankings released by the ITA on Feb.27. All seven of Columbia's wins have come against nationally ranked opponents. The Lions picked up a top 10 win during ITA National Indoor Championships by defeating then No.9 ranked Oklahoma State. Columbia boasts three nationally ranked players in singles and two doubles teams. Victor Pham leads the ranked players for Columbia with a national ranking of No.7 and a 22-5 overall singles match record. In Doubles the duo of Victor Pham and Jackie Tang are ranked No.11 nationally and have 12 overall doubles victories.
