Monmouth University Athletics

Alex Kasarov was named Monmouth Men’s Tennis Head Coach in September 2016. Kasarov joined the Blue & White following stints as an assistant with the Davidson College men’s team and the Northwestern University women’s team.

In his first year at the helm (2016-17), Kasarov's squad went undefeated in conference play and swept Fairfield in the MAAC Semifinals, 4-0. Monmouth went on to win the MAAC Championship as it defeated Marist by a score of 4-1. With an overall record of 13-11, Monmouth faced Virginia in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Cavaliers defeated the Hawks and went on to win the National Championship. All six players in the Monmouth line-up earned at least one All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference honor. Kasarov was named MAAC Coach of the Year after leading the Hawks to a 7-0 MAAC record in his first season, including five sweeps. All three doubles teams earned First Team honors, while sophomore Alberto Giuffrida was named to the First Team at #5 singles.

Davidson enjoyed back-to-back winning seasons in Kasarov’s two seasons, earning the Nos. 3 and 4 seeds in the program’s first two years in the Atlantic 10 Conference. The Wildcats had a combined 8-2 league mark, going 4-1 each season. In addition, Kasarov coached two-time A-10 all-league picks Shamael Chaudhry and Artem Khrapko, who in their first two years combined to collect 47 singles wins and 31 doubles victories.

The Wildcats’ enjoyed a 10-match winning streak in Kasarov’s first year with the program, the team’s longest string of victories since 1997. The Wildcats also excelled in the classroom, as Davidson was named an ITA All-Academic Team and five student-athletes were named ITA Scholar Athletes following the 2016 season.

A four-year letterwinner at Wisconsin from 2001-05, Kasarov went on to serve as a volunteer coach for the Northwestern women’s tennis team. He helped the Wildcats take home the 2014 Big Ten Championship, defeating Michigan 4-3 in the final, while advancing to the NCAA Tournament as a 15th seed. It was a very successful regular season as Northwestern finished second in the Big Ten and had three players earn first-team all-league recognition. Northwestern concluded the season ranked 15th in the final ITA rankings. It earned victories over No. 2 Florida and No. 7 Texas A&M at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship during the Fall season.

Prior to his time at Northwestern, Kasarov was a private tennis coach where he worked with top nationally-ranked junior players. He was a tennis professional from 2006-11 at Midtown Athletic Club, College Park Athletic Club and Club Net, CARE Tennis Academy, working with top-ranked players of all ages in Illinois, Midwest Section and nationally. Kasarov also worked individually with the club’s top-ranked players, while providing on-court coaching during junior tournaments.

During his collegiate career, Kasarov was a key member on the Wisconsin Badgers’ men’s tennis team, competing at the No. 1 spot in both singles and doubles for three straight years. He was a team captain in 2004 and earned All-Big Ten honors. In addition, Kasarov earned team MVP honors that year and was the recipient of the Wisconsin Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. Nationally, Kasarov was ranked as high as eighth in doubles during his career.
