TRACK & FIELD WINS MAAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

NEW YORK, NY – For the fifth straight indoor season, the Monmouth women's track and field team has won the MAAC Championships while the men have won 4 of the last 5 championships. The men completed three sweeps in the 60 and 200 meter dashes and the shot put. Junior Ashley McKinnon broke the school record in the triple jump and Casey Sturts broke the meet record in the pole vault. Both the men and women earned at least one point in all but one event to dominate the meet.

  • "Both teams executed well and competed with a ton of heart," said Coach Joe Compagni. "Whether it was competing in multiple events, or staying ready for a relay, they all really put a championship effort out there."
  • Compagni won his 50th and 51st MAAC Coach of the Year honors.
  • The men amassed 260 points to beat out second place Rider (118 points) and Manhattan in third with 113 points.
  • The women scored 232 points to win the meet over Quinnipiac (119 points) and Rider (117 points).
  • The Hawks took the top four spots in the 60-meter dash with Bryan Sosoo winning in 6.78 seconds. Ibrahim Massey (6.87 seconds) took second, Miguerson Joseph (6.93 seconds) placed third, and Peter Guerriero (6.99 seconds) rounded out the top four.
  • The top four spots in the 200-meter dash were also occupied by the Hawks with Guerriero winning in 22.00 seconds. Massey finished just .01 seconds behind Guerriero in second while Joseph (22.35) and Sosoo (22.41) rounded out the top four. Malcolm Chavis also scored for Monmouth by finishing 6th with a time of 22.58 seconds.
  • Dylan Capwell won the 800 meters in 1:51.53 while teammate Chris Marco finished in 1:53.09 to take second. Bryan Cabral earned a point for the Blue and White by placing 8th in 2:01.40.
  • The sweep in the men's shot put was led by senior Corey Murphy who won the event with a mark of 62'1.25". Andrew Tummino and Brandon Davis took second and third with marks of 55'9.25" and 54'4.5". Andrew Huisman placed 7th with a throw of 53'4.25".
  • Sosoo also won on to win the triple jump with a jump of 48'7.5" while teammates Darius Howe and Michael Pepper finished 3rd and 4th with marks of 48'1.25" and 46'8.25".
  • The relay team of Capwell, Ryan Rafferty, Marco, and Cabral won the 4x800 in 7:41.79.
  • Tim Van Cauwenberge (8.49 seconds) and Tim Jacoutot (8.56 seconds) earned the Hawks five points in the 60-meter hurdles.
  • Chavis took third in the 400-meter dash by finishing in 49.02 seconds while Jacoutot placed 6th with a time of 49.81 seconds. Greg Stickle claimed a point for Monmouth by finishing 8th in 51.72 seconds.
  • Marco (4:07.56), Tim Euler (4:15.52), and Jake Howell (4:17.79) finished 4-7-8 in the mile.
  • Jacoutot, Frank Conforti, Capwell, and Chavis finished second in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:19.58.
  • For the women, McKinnon began her 24-point effort by breaking the school record in the triple jump with a winning mark of 40'4.75". Mariah Hubbard (38'6.25") finished behind McKinnon in second and Patrice Baston (36'9") placed 7th.
  • Allie Wilson's strong performance on Sunday was highlighted by her winning time of 4:56.35 in the mile. Kyra Velock (4:58.38) finished third and Amber Stratz (5:01.29) placed 6th.
  • Sturts broke a meet record in the pole vault by clearing 12'8.25". Savanna Sachar and Taylor Clark placed 3rd and 5th by clearing 10'.
  • Brianna Stratz won the 800-meters in 2:12.11 while Wilson finished just behind in second with a time of 2:12.67. Chandi Piiru (2:12.82) and Amber Stratz (2:13.67) took 4th and 5th in the event as well.
  • Allison Taub won the shot put with a mark of 45'5.75" while teammate Jordan Wildermuth (44'10.25") took second. Alicia Hester (42') and Chibuzo Amonu (41'1") scored for Monmouth by finishing in 5th and 6th.
  • Relay team of Wilson, Stratz, Stratz, and Piiru won the 4x800 in 9:05.53.
  • Domoah Kutu-Akoi (7.62 seconds), McKinnon (7.76 seconds), and Iyanna Jenkins (7.78 seconds) went 3-4-5 in the 60-meter dash.
  • Dana Lynch (8.87 seconds) finished 4th in the 60-meter hurdles while Viviane Orleans (8.98 seconds) placed 6th.
  • Kutu-Akoi (25.15 seconds), Jenkins (25.32 seconds), and McKinnon (25.72 seconds) earned 14 points for the Hawks in the 200-meter dash.
  • Nioami Miranda placed third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.80 seconds.
  • Velock, Mackenzie Todd, Amanda Dwyer, and Miranda placed third in the 4x400 relay by finishing in 3:57.82.

  • A number of Hawks will compete at the Fastrack Last Chance Meet at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex next Saturday in Staten Island, NY.
