MONMOUTH TAKES NO. 11 DALLAS BAPTIST TO THE WIRE, FALL 5-3

DALLAS, TX – Monmouth came back to tie twice and put runners on base in eight of nine innings in taking No. 11 Dallas Baptist to the wire Saturday afternoon at Horner Ballpark before falling 5-3. Joe Molettiere (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) struck out six in six solid innings on the hill, and Shaine Hughes (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) had multiple hits for the second consecutive game.

After DBU got on the board in the second inning, Hughes singled home a run in the fifth to tie the game at one. Kody Funderburk responded in the bottom of the inning, driving in his second run of the game to put the Patriots back on top.

Kyle Norman (Ellicott City, MD/Good Counsel) collected his first hit as a Hawk in the sixth, and moved to second on a balk before Clay Koniencki (Schwenksville, PA/Malvern Prep) knocked one back through the middle to score Norman and tie the game. The home team took the lead back at 3-2 after a sixth inning solo home run off the bat of Garrett Wolforth, and added two more in the seventh, both unearned.

Danny Long (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) knocked Monmouth's first long ball of the season leading off the ninth to get MU within 5-3, but the Hawks couldn't get the tying run to the plate in falling to the Patriots.

NOTES AND QUOTES
"Joe Molettiere was excellent today. He had three pitches working and really competed. Austin Counsellor and John Martin pitched well also. We battled and showed a lot of fight today. I like the fight and resolve we have shown the past two days. Of course we need to tighten some things, I'm looking forward to getting back out there tomorrow and seeing what we are made of." – Dean Ehehalt
