SCOUTING THE PEACOCKS
Nick Griffin leads three Peacocks in double figures at 13.2 points per game. SPU has rebounded from a six-game losing streak to win two of its last four.
SPU HEAD COACH JOHN DUNNE
In his 12th season at the helm of the Peacocks, John Dunne led SPU to the CIT title last season. He has an NCAA Tournament appearance to his credit, and last season won 23 games.
HAWKS AT HOME
Monmouth is 4-5 away from home this season, with the five losses coming by a combined 15 points including two by one point and a third by three.
SPU ON THE ROAD
The Peacocks are 2-10 away from Jersey City, and have yet to win a road league game this season. Their lone wins away from home came at Lafayette and LIU Brooklyn.
MCCLARY'S SOLID NIGHT
Marcus McClary netted a career-high nine points at Manhattan and hit his first three pointer, part of a career-best four made field goals. The freshman also snagged a career-best two steals in 22 minutes, one minute shy of his season high in his inaugural campaign.
THE STRETCH RUN
Monmouth will play three of its final five games at home to close out the season, including two this week against Saint Peter's and Canisius. MU will play a quarter of its scheduled home games in the next nine days, concluding with Senior Night against Rider on 2/22.
HAMMOND CONTINUES TO SHINE
Deion Hammond hit four threes in a span of 3:47 at Manhattan en route to a 19-point showing, his third highest output of the season. Hammond grabbed his season-high of four rebounds for the second game in a row, and is currently fourth amongst MAAC freshmen in scoring.
SALNAVE STEALS IT
Ray Salnave collected a career-high five steals, the second Hawk to do so this season, at Manhattan. His defense helped lead a late first half Monmouth run to get MU within two at one point, eventually trailing by four at the break.
LOCKING DOWN DEFENSIVELY
Monmouth allowed just 50 points to Iona, the best defensive showing of the season and lowest amount of points allowed by MU since last season in a 91-49 win over Fairfield on 1/19/17. The Hawks limited Iona to 24 points in the opening half, the best defensive opening half of the season, and held Iona to 32.8% from the field, the Gaels' lowest shooting percentage of the year. From distance, Iona shot 21.9%, the best three-point defense MU has exhibited this season.
WINNING WITH JUST ONE DOUBLE-DIGIT SCORER
Monmouth topped Iona with just one double-digit scorer in
Louie Pillari, who finished with his second career 20+ point game in netting 21 points. The last time MU won a game with one player in double digits was 11/22/16, when
Justin Robinson's 19 points were the Hawks' lone double-figure output in a win over Cornell at home.
DOING IT TOGETHER
MU finished with seven players scoring six or more points against Iona, and seven players grabbing four or more rebounds. 10 of 11 Hawks who played in the game scored, while nine grabbed a rebound and seven had an assist.
