DOUBLE-DOUBLE MACHINE... AT GUARD
Austin Tilghman has now totaled four double-doubles, the most on Monmouth and fourth most in the MAAC. Tilghman has posted double-doubles in consecutive games for the first time in his career and has posted the second most such games in the league for a guard, behind only Niagara's Matt Scott, who has seven. The last time two Hawks posted the stat in consecutive games came on last year's Buffalo trip, when
Justin Robinson did it with 21 points and 11 assists at Niagara before
Chris Brady went for 22 points and 10 boards vs. Canisius. Deon Jones was the last individual Hawk to post back-to-back double-double, doing so on 1/16/14 at Quinnipiac (16 pts., 11 rebs.) and 1/19/14 vs. Canisius (20 pts., 11 rebs.).
SWEEPING PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Monmouth swept the league's weekly honors for the second time since joining the MAAC in 2013, with
Austin Tilghman being named Player of the Week and
Deion Hammond Rookie of the Week last Monday. The last pair of players to sweep the awards were
Justin Robinson and
Micah Seaborn on 11/30/15 after MU came off a third-place finish at the AdvoCare Invitational, posting high-major wins over #17 Notre Dame and USC. Tilghman posted his third double-double of the season and scored a career-high 24 points Saturday at Nassau Coliseum against Marist, leading Monmouth in four major categories for the day including points, rebounds (12), assists (6) and steals (3). He preceded that with 20 points against Siena, and shot 54.5% from the field and a perfect 19-of-19 from the free throw line on the week. In the two games, Tilghman was just shy of averaging a double-double, and posted a line for the week of 22 points, 9.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and two steals per game. The point guard was on the floor for 74 of a possible 80 minutes. Hammond continued his strong freshman season with another pair of double-figure performances, netting a career-best 24 points with five triples Saturday vs. Marist at Nassau Coliseum. He scored 17 points against Siena on Thursday night while averaging three rebounds per game on the week. Hammond's five threes vs. Marist notched a career-best, as did his nine made field goals against the Red Foxes.
SALNAVE'S STRETCH
Redshirt freshman guard
Ray Salnave is averaging 13.5 points per game over his last four contests, going into double-digits in three of the games. He topped a career-high with 19 points at Rider, and netted 15 points vs. Marist and 16 points, all in the first half against Iona. Salnave is shooting over 41% during that time, and over 80% from the free throw line while averaging close to four rebounds, two assists and a steal per game.
