FIELD HOCKEY TOPS BRYANT FOR SIXTH STRAIGHT WIN

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Freshman Annick van Lange registered her first career hat trick to help lead the Monmouth University field hockey team to its sixth straight victory with a 6-2 win over visiting Bryant, Sunday afternoon at So Sweet A Cat Field.  The Hawks, who improve to 8-5 overall and 3-0 in league play, outshot the Bulldogs 33-5, including 20-3 in the second half.

Senior Elyssa Okken sparked the first two goals for the Hawks.  The forward drove the end line in the 11th minute and sent a cross to Garden Bachop who knocked in her team-leading 11th goal into the empty cage to put the Hawks ahead 1-0.  The Hawks struck again in the 28th minute when Okken induced a turnover and set up van Lange on the two-on-one to move MU in front by two.  Bryant got one back in the 34th minute with a goal from Ally Burdick off a corner, but van Lange's second of the afternoon came with 47 ticks left in the half to allow the Hawks to enter the break ahead 3-1.

Hanna capped off a fast break, three-on-one, seven minutes into the second half as she took the pass from Garden Bachop, stopped, controlled it and kept it away from the ensuing keeper, before ripping a shot into the far side netting.  Bryant knocked in a rebound in the 48th minute to cut the lead to two again, but van Lange finished off her hat trick in the 53rd minute.  Boom sealed the victory, knocking in a deflected ball off a corner with time expired.

Kate O'Hogan recorded her fourth straight victory in cage, making one save.
