STRIPLING AND ANTUNES EARN THIRD TEAM ALL-NORTHEAST REGION

KANSAS CITY, MO - Redshirt senior midfielder Colin Stripling and redshirt freshman midfielder John Antunes of the Monmouth University men's soccer team were named to the United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-Northeast Region, the organization announced.

Both Stripling and Antunes were named to the All-MAAC Second Team following the 2017 season, and each earn their first All-Region honors.

"It's wonderful to see Colin and Johnny get recognized as All-Region athletes," said Monmouth head coach Robert McCourt. "It's a tribute to their hard work they put in every day.  Colin is a senior who has received many well-deserved accolades during his career.  Johnny is just starting his Monmouth career and has a bright future ahead of him."

Stripling adds to his long list of career honors, having earned 2013 MAAC All-Rookie Team, 2015 All-MAAC First Team, the 2016 All-MAAC Second Team, 2017 Preseason All-MAAC Team, 2017 All-MAAC Second Team, and 2017 All-Northeast Region.  Stripling led the team with four goals this season, and was second on the team with 10 points. In the Hawks' season-opener, he scored the game-winning diving header in the 69th minute against Georgia Southern. Stripling scored two goals in Monmouth's 3-1 win over Hartford (Sept. 20), earning MAAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. He ends his Monmouth career with 71 games played, 67 starts, 15 goals, nine assists, 39 points, and four game-winning goals.

After getting injured in the first game of the season in 2016, Antunes started 17 games in the midfield for the Hawks in 2017. The redshirt freshman scored two goals and added three assists for seven total points, and was third on the team with 24 shots. Antunes was all over the field in his first full campaign, consistently controlling the midfield. He scored his first career goal in Monmouth's 3-1 win over Hartford (Sept. 20), launching a rocket to the right upper 90 to put the Hawks up 1-0. Antunes registered assists in back-to-back games against UMBC (Sept. 9) and Columbia (Sept. 12), and scored his second goal in Monmouth's 3-2 win over Iona (Oct. 4). He dished his third assist of the season in Monmouth's 1-1 tie against Siena (Oct. 14).

The East Region includes teams from the American East Conference, Atlantic Coast Conference, Atlantic 10, Colonial Athletic Association, Ivy League, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, Northeast Conference and Patriot League.

United Soccer Coaches, formerly the NSCAA, was founded in 1941 and is the largest community for soccer coaches in the world.
