WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Northeastern University scored a pair of first half goals and held off a late charge by the Monmouth University men's soccer team for a 2-1 win on Saturday afternoon in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play.Â

Both teams had their chances early in the contest.
Otto Moosbrugger made a save for the Hawks while Monmouth forced Tobias Jahn into two early stops.Â

Northeastern broke through in the 34th minute as Neil Devnani found the back of the net.Â
Â
The Huskies added to their lead in the 42nd minute as Morris Matthews forced a Monmouth turnover and ripped a high shot into the corner. Northeastern took the 2-0 lead into the break.

The two teams continued to battle in the second half. Moosbrugger had a save in the 61st minute to keep the deficit at two.Â

Jahn had two more big stops for the Huskies.

Monmouth got on the board in the 76th minute.
Cam Lawrence sent a ball up the far side to
Jakob Friedman. Friedman played one into the box where
Andrea Croce slipped one just inside the pole. Croce's goal made it a 2-1 game.

The Hawks continued to apply the pressure but could not get the equalizer and Northeastern claimed the win.
