WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – In a battle of undefeated conference opponents, the Monmouth University men's tennis team took down Marist on Saturday afternoon, 4-3. The Hawks came into the matchup with a 5-0 MAAC record, which were all sweeps. Marist was 6-0 in conference play before being edged by Monmouth this afternoon. The Hawks move into first place in the conference with an unblemished 6-0 record, and will host Quinnipiac in the final regular season match before the conference championships. Sophomore Nicola Pipoli earned the clutch 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 win at #1 singles after winning #2 doubles with Alberto Giuffrida, 6-4. Ale Gomez Estrada earned the win at #3 singles by a score of 6-4, 7-6 and also won his #1 doubles match with Przemyslaw Filipek, 6-3. Giuffrida came down with the other singles win for Monmouth at #5. With both teams winning three singles matches each, the result came down to the doubles portion, which Monmouth swept 3-0.
