WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Sophomore
Josephine van der Hoop scored her 13th goal of the season, but it was not enough as the top-seeded Monmouth University field hockey team fell to third-seeded Fairfield, 2-1, Sunday afternoon in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship game.
van der Hoop tipped in a reverse shot by
Kelly Hanna in the eighth minute to give the Blue and White a 1-0 lead it would eventually carry into the break. Hanna Pike, the MAAC Championship MVP, scored in the 42nd and 57th minute to lead the Stags to victory and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

- Hanna notched her seventh assist of the year to increase her point total to 35, good for second on the team.

- Monmouth held a slight edge in shots, 6-4, while Fairfield earned six corners compared four for the Hawks.
