FIELD HOCKEY RALLIES TO TOP VILLANOVA, 3-2, IN OT

CONSHOHOCKEN, PA – Tamar Klinkhamer tapped in a redirected pass from Josephine van der Hoop with five minutes left in the second overtime to give the Monmouth University field hockey team a 3-2 come-from-behind victory at Villanova, Sunday afternoon in the final non-conference game of the season.

Trailing by one, senior Julie Laszlo swept a shot back to corner inserter Kelly Hanna who deflected it into the netting to tie the score with 2:02 left in regulation.  After a scoreless first overtime session, MU was awarded a corner opportunity which was inserted by van der Hoop.  The sophomore sent the pass to the top of the circle to Laszlo, who moved to her left and sent a feed on cage that was deflected by van der Hoop across the goal mouth where Klinkhammer knocked it in for the game-winner.

The Hawks opened the scoring in the 18th minute when van der Hoop deflected a long pass from Meg Donahue to give MU a 1-0 lead.  The Wildcats responded 40 seconds before the break and took a 2-1 lead 6:42 into the second half before the Hawks found the equalizer in the final two minutes of regulations.

Senior goalkeeper Christen Piersanti made six saves in the victory, while Laszlo added her second defensive save.

NOTES & QUOTES
"We showed a lot of character in tying the game late and then held our composure in double overtime.  Finishing 9-2 in non-league play and being national ranked during that time is a tremendous feat for our program.  Hoping that the lessons learned during non-conference play will help us the final few weeks of the season." – Head Coach Carli Figlio

- For the second year in a row, the Hawks finish non-league play at 9-2, tying the best non-conference record set last season.
- The Hawks have won the last four meetings with the Wildcats (4-9 all-time).
- Both of Klinkhamer's goals this season are game-winners.
- Laszlo's assist on the equalizer to extend her point streak to 11 games.  The senior has 27 points over that span.
- Hanna's marker is the eighth of the year for the junior.
- van der Hoop, who finished with three points on the afternoon, connected with her team-leading 12th goal of the year.
- Piersanti earned her 47th career victory in cage.
