WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University men's and women's swimming teams opened their season on Friday afternoon against Mount St. Mary's at Steadman Natatorium.
The men's team lost by a narrow margin, 134-128, in a decision that came down to the final race, while the women's squad fell 146-116.
Freshman
Gabby Cabaron won three events to highlight the afternoon on the women's side, while classmate Ryan Reutti took first in two events for the Hawks.

Gabby Cabaron won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.50), 200-yard breaststroke (2:30.46) and the 200-yard IM (2:17.48).
- Ryan Reutti won the 100-yard backstroke (54.74) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:58.69).
- Tyler Lutter (21.16) and Ethan Lucas (21.76) took the top two spots in the 50-yard freestyle as Monmouth took 15 of the 20 points in the event.
- Sophomore Bradie Keelan placed first in the women's 50-yard freestyle, as she touched the wall in 25.65.
- Rookie Ryan Hohman earned nine points in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:34.88.
- Sophomore Eric Sorensen won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.08.
- The women's 200-yard freestyle relay team of

Mary Emich won 11 points with its first-place time of 1:43.90.
