LOUISVILLE, KY - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced that a record 7,351 softball players, including Monmouth's
Jasmine Higa,
Chloe Howerth,
Amanda Hopeck, and
Rachel Shotzbarger, earned NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2016-17 academic year.
NCAA Division I led the way with 1,843 student-athletes earning a 3.5 grade-point average or higher.
Shotzbarger graduated last spring with a degree in Business Marketing and Management. She left Monmouth as the program record holder with 50 career doubles. She also ranks 4
th all-time with 119 runs batted in, ranks 7
th all-time with 17 home runs, and ranks 4
th all-time with 66 walks.
Higa was named to the MAAC All-Tournament Team after the 2017 season, as she added three hits in the MAAC Championships, including a home run in the ninth inning to defeat Iona and an RBI double against Marist.
Howerth started all 56 games last season for the Hawks, and led the team with 55 hits. Heading into her senior season, she has started 150 games with a .293 career batting average and has been named to the MAAC All-Academic Team twice.
Hopeck appeared in nine games during her freshman campaign, and registered her first career hit against Delaware on May 3.
