BASEBALL FALLS TO SAINT JOSEPH'S WEDNESDAY, 7-3

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Sophomore Aidan Favia (Short Hills, NJ/Millburn) hit his first career home run, but the Monmouth baseball team was defeated by Saint Joseph's Wednesday at the MU Baseball Field, 7-3. MU falls to 17-15, while SJU gets back to .500 at 15-15.

Saint Joseph's went up 3-0 in the fourth inning, when Brian Lau doubled down the left field line leading off. Charlie Coghlin followed by driving in the game's first run with a double to left center before Cal Jadacki walked and Taylor Boyd was hit by a pitch to fill the bases. Peter Sitaras capped the three-run inning with a double in the gap in right center to make it 3-0 SJU.

MU got a run back with three hits in a row with two outs in the fifth, when Ryan Bailey (Mount Kisco, NY/Fox Lane) dropped a single in front of the center fielder and Robbie Alessandrine (Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) followed with a single to left. Freshman Jordan McCrum (Dallas, PA/Dallas Senior) bounced one through the left side to bring in Monmouth's first run of the day and cut it to 3-1.

Deon Stafford Jr. homered to left field in the top of the seventh, a solo shot, but Favia responded with his first career long ball in the bottom of the inning after a Chris Gaetano (Madison Township, PA/Scranton Preparatory) base hit, making it 4-3 Saint Joseph's.

The visitors tacked on three runs in the ninth to make it 7-3, with John Brue notching an RBI single to left to score the first run. Lau delivered a two-run double inside the third base line to make it 7-3, the eventual final score.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday for a MAAC doubleheader at home against Siena. First pitch of Game One is set for 12:00 p.m., and both games are set to air on ESPN3.
