SHREWSBURY, NJ – The Monmouth University men's tennis team won five of six singles flights to take a 5-1 victory over Drexel Wednesday night at New Shrewsbury Racquet Club. The teams played singles first, and with the Hawks already clinching the match with five points, doubles matches were not played.

Ale Gomez Estrada (Guayaquil, Ecuador/PERT) quickly got the Hawks on the board with a 6-3, 6-2, victory over Balaji Lakshmanan at No. 3, before Przemyslaw Filipek (Bedzin, Poland/Second Lo [Silesia]) made it 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-2, win over Xabier Saavedra at the top flight. Alberto Giuffrida (Catania, Italy/Lincoln) then put the Hawks on the brink of victory with a 6-4, 6-2, win at No. 6.

The Dragons got a point back as Sinan Orhon battled back from down a set to defeat Christian Vieira (Houston, TX/Memorial), 2-6, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 5. But Nicola Pipoli (Polignano a Mare, Italy/Liceo Scientifico Sante Simone) clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-1, win over Hamza Laalej at No. 4. Vidit Vaghela accounted for the final Monmouth victory, defeating Andrew Sinai, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, at No. 2.  

The Hawks return to action Saturday, when they travel to Saint Joseph's. First serve from Philadelphia is slated for 4 p.m.
