LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena's Fabinana Citro converted a penalty stroke with three seconds left in regulation to stun the Monmouth University field hockey team, Friday afternoon at Siena's Field Turf. The Hawks, who have already clinched a berth in next weekend's MAAC Championship, suffer their first conference loss of the season, but could still earn the right to host the four-team tournament with a win at Bryant on Sunday.
Monmouth controlled the game earning nine corner chances compared just four opportunities for the Saints, while outshooting Siena, 10-2, for the game. Siena earned the victory on Citro's fourth goal of the season via the penalty stroke, the team's first shot on cage on the afternoon.
Seven different Hawks registered a shot led by a pair of attempts by both senior Cori Allen (Gibbsboro, NJ/Eastern Regional [Iowa]) and junior Casey Hanna (Seaville, NJ/Ocean City).
Sophomore goalkeeper Christen Piersanti (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) suffered the loss in cage, despite not being forced to make a save, while Mary Drabich turned away four shots to earn the victory for Siena.
Monmouth will close out the regular season on Sunday, November 1st at Bryant.
