WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Both the Monmouth University men's and women's track and field teams are ranked 11th in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Mid-Atlantic Region poll.
The Monmouth men, who recently won their fifth straight Northeast Conference Championship and placed 22nd at the IC4A Championships, had a pair of entrants earn All-East honors as
Errol Jeffrey earned the nod in the shot put, as well as the school's 4x800 relay team of of sophomores
Andrew Langille,
Luis Reyes, and
Alex Leight along with senior captain
Ford Palmer.
The women's side, which also won its fifth straight NEC Championship, claimed a 12th place finish at the Division I ECAC Championships, its best finish in school history. The Hawks tallied 26 points, beating the previous best finish of 15th place with 22 points last year, and placed four Hawks on the All-East list as
Taylor Johnson (discus),
Mariah Toussaint (long jump),
Rachel Watkins (400 hurdles) and
Rachel Aliotta (shot put) earned the distinction.
"We have been happy to be ranked in the region each week this season," said Monmouth head coach Joe Compagni. "Our team continued to move forward each week this spring and they had some great performances at both the NEC and ECAC/IC4A Championship meets. We are looking forward to some more great efforts at the First Round of NCAAs next week."
