LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - On the second day of competition at the Rafer Johnson / Jackie Joyner Kersee Invitational at UCLA, Lindsey Walsh (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) earned a ECAC Championship mark in the heptahlon while sophomore Vincent DuVernois (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) won the Invitational Javelin.
Walsh, who started the day in fifth place in the heptahlon, cleared 17' 1 in the long jump while posting a throw of 84' 4" in the javelin. The New Jersey native took first in the 800 meter in the final event, crossing the finish line in 2:25.43, giving her a total of 4,622 points in the seven-events, good for third. The junior's total places her seventh in school history.
Jen Nelson (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) ran her way into the MU record books as the junior took 10th overall in the 5K with a time of 17:38 which places her fifth in school history.
Reining Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week, Laura Williams (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick Township) ran 56.10 in the 400 to claim third.
Distance runner Amanda Eller (Delmont, N.J./Millville) finished 12th overall in the 1500, registering a time of 4:42.21, which was third best in the sophomore's heat, while classmate Emily MacEwen (South Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) finished in 4:53.09.
For the men's squad, DuVernois won the Invitational Javelin with a throw of 227'9". His throw moves him to sixth in school history behind MU's All-American and U.S. Olympic Trials Champion Bobby Smith.
Junior Geoff Navarro (Mays Landing, N.J./Absegami) ran 21.95 in the 200 for the men's squad to earn third while senior Jason Kelsey (Ramsey, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) took sixth with a time of 22.52.
Monmouth returns to action tomorrow, in the final day of competition at UCLA, while the rest of the squad competes at the Rutgers Invitational.
