LEWISBURG, PA.- Several athletes from the Monmouth University women's and men's track and field teams participated in the Bison Outdoor Classic, hosted by Bucknell University, on Friday. Jennifer Nelson (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat [Ocean County]) and Christine Altland (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) both qualified for the ECAC Championships with their times in the 10,000 meter run, while Sean Hartnett (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) and Garth DeBlasio (Millstone, N.J./Allentown) posted solid times for MU.
Nelson shattered the school record in the 10k, finishing second overall and first amongst collegiate competitors. The junior's time of 35:58 broke the previous MU mark by 49 seconds and qualified her for the ECAC Championships in May.
Altland also etched her name in the Hawks' record book with her 37:33 finish in the 10,000 meter run, good for sixth all-time school history. The senior also punched her ticket to the ECAC Championships.
For the men's team, Hartnett posted a 5k time of 15:27 and DeBlasio crossed the finish line in 4:01 in the 1500 meter run. Both finishes were the top finishing times for Monmouth in the spring season.
The Hawks continue competing tomorrow in Bethlehem, Pa. at the Greyhound Invitational, hosted by Moravian College.
