LILLO?S SIX GOALS PACE MU PAST RED FLASH, 16-9

LORETTO, Pa.-   Paced by junior Sam Lillo 's (Short Hills, N.J./Milburn) career-high seven points, Monmouth University's women's lacrosse team (10-4, 5-1 NEC) defeated Saint Francis University (4-10, 1-6 NEC) Friday afternoon at DeGol Field.

After a back-and-forth affair for half of the first frame Monmouth tallied four unanswered goals, including two from the stick of Lillo, to take an 8-4 lead with 11:01 to play.   MU outscored the Red Flash 7-4 in the second half to cruise to the seven point win.  The Hawks were backstopped by senior Kirby Mundorf (Cambridge, Md./Seton Keogh), who had a career-high 19 saves in her 10th win of the season.

"Sam Lillo played out of her head today, placed her shots really well," said head coach Denise Wescott . "She also helped us get the draw. Kirby had a great day in goal, making a lot of key saves on one-on-ones and point blank shots.  Gianna did a nice job keeping the draw away from Saint Francis and came up with some possessions for us.  SFPA had a really good team, they kept coming at us and were aggressive and scrappy.  We were able to get the draw in the second half, we settled in and got some good looks at the cage."

Lillo broke a 4-4 tie with an unassisted goal with 17:21 to play, which sparked a 5-1 run to end the first half.  With a 9-5 lead to start the second frame, Lillo scored her third goal of the game just 1:06 in on a free position goal.  Two more goals gave MU a 12-5 advantage with 19:22 to play before Red Flash midfielder Danielle Conwell tallied a score for the home squad to cut the lead to 12-6.  The six goal margin was the closed Saint Francis was able to get to the Hawks, who are now 10-0 all-time against the Red Flash.

Lillo's seven points was a career high, with the junior adding two draw controls to her totals.  Senior Rachel Feirstein (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown East) had five points on three goals and two assists.  Molly O'Brien (Kennett Sqaure, Pa./Unionville) and Lynn White (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) each had two goals in the contest. In addition to her career-best 19 saves, Mundorf had three ground balls and a caused turnover.

All nine SFPA goals came from the stick of Conwell (six goals) and Kara Ledgerwood (three goals).  Red Flash goalie Danielle Pokusa had 13 saves in the loss.
The Hawks will take on Robert Morris on Sunday at 1 p.m.
