Grace Curtin’s Five Goals Soar Monmouth Over Old Dominion, 9-5

The Hawks allowed a season-low five goals

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (April 18, 2026) - The Monmouth University women's lacrosse team used a strong defensive effort to earn 9-5 victory over Old Dominion on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at Kessler Stadium.

Grace Curtin tallied a first-half hat-trick and led all scorers with five goals and added an assist for the Hawks (9-7, 1-5 CAA), while Lauren Rismani totaled three points on one goal and two assists. Marlaina Grimm (1g, 1a) and Sophia Lymberis (2a) each contributed multi-point efforts, and Brooke Lacey and Shea Berigan also found the back of the net.

Defensively, Monmouth held Old Dominion to just five goals on 19 shots. Katie Sullivan made two saves in 44:02 of action, while Gia Mitchell got the start and earned the win with one save in 15:58.

The Hawks opened the scoring with a goal from Lacey before Old Dominion (5-11, 0-5 American) answered with a pair to take a 2-1 lead late in the first quarter. Curtin responded in the final seconds of the frame with an unassisted goal to even the score at 2-2 after one.

Monmouth took control in the second quarter behind Curtin, who scored twice in the period, including goals off assists from Rismani and Lymberis. The Hawks held Old Dominion scoreless in the frame and carried a 4-2 lead into halftime.

After Old Dominion cut the deficit to one early in the third quarter, Monmouth answered with a 2-0 run, highlighted by a man-up goal from Rismani and another strike from Curtin to extend the lead to 6-3.

The Monarchs made one final push in the fourth quarter, scoring twice to trim the deficit to 6-5 with 6:40 remaining. Monmouth responded with three unanswered goals in the final minutes, including scores from Grimm, Curtin and Berigan, to secure the 9-5 win.

  • Grace Curtin scored a career-high five goals and matched her career-best with six points. Curtin has 19 goals in her last six games, having scored at least three times in five of the six.
  • Curtin has 33 goals, 13 assists, and 46 points, third most on the team in all three categories.
  • Lauren Rismani scored a goal and dished two assists, giving her a program record 53 assists this season.
  • Rismani has 3.31 assists per game, which would be a CAA record for a season.
  • Marlaina Grimm had her seventh multi-point outing of the spring, going for a goal and an assist against the Monarchs.

  • The five goals Monmouth allowed are the fewest by an opponent since earning a 9-5 victory over Marist last season.
  • Monmouth's victory guarantees the Hawks their first winning season since 2023. It marks the sixth winning season since Head Coach Jordan Trautman was hired prior to the 2018 campaign.
