WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (April 25, 2026) - The Monmouth women's lacrosse team rallied from a three-goal fourth quarter deficit but eventually dropped a 12-11 overtime decision to Towson on Saturday afternoon at Kessler Stadium in its regular season finale.
Monmouth (9-8, 1-6 CAA) trailed 10-7 in the final frame before rattling off four straight goals to take the lead. Towson (7-10, 5-2 CAA) tied the game in the final minute of regulation and broke through two minutes into overtime, leaving West Long Branch with the victory.
Sophia Lymberis led Monmouth with three goals and an assist, while
Shea Berigan and
Olivia Castaldo each added two goals.
Lauren Rismani totaled five points on one goal and four assists, and
Grace Curtin contributed three points (2g, 1a).
Katie Sullivan made 13 saves in goal for the Hawks, holding Towson to just four goals after halftime.
The Hawks struck first with a man-up goal from Castaldo off a Rismani assist, but Towson responded with a 5-1 run to take a 5-2 lead late in the opening quarter. Lymberis added a free-position goal to cut the deficit to 5-3 after one.
Monmouth chipped away in the second quarter, getting a second goal from Castaldo and a free-position strike from
Brooke Lacey, but Towson maintained control and carried an 8-5 advantage into halftime.
The Hawks held Towson scoreless in the third quarter and began to climb back into the game, as Lymberis scored off an assist from Lacey to trim the deficit to 8-6 heading into the fourth.
Monmouth continued its comeback in the final period, tying the game at 10-10 on a pair of goals from
Shea Berigan, including a free-position finish and an even-strength strike off a Rismani assist.
Rismani gave the Hawks their first lead since the opening quarter with 1:33 remaining, finishing a behind-the-back short off a feed from
Grace Curtin to make it 11-10. Towson answered in the final minute to force overtime, and Hannah Lewis netted the game-winner with 2:45 left in the extra period to secure the 12-11 victory.

- Lauren Rismani wrapped up her Monmouth career with her eighth performance with at least five points, tallying a goal and four assists against the Tigers.
- Rismani finishes the season with 77 points and a program-record 57 assists. Her 3.35 assists per game set a new CAA single-season record, besting the previous mark of 3.12 assists per game set by Delaware's Mia DeRuggiero in 2019.
- Her 57 assists are tied with Stony Brook's Casey Colbert (2025) for the second-most assists in a season in league history. She only trails Katie Kerrigan's 60 helpers for JMU in 2018.
- Sophia Lymberis matched her season high with three goals and four points, recording multiple points for the third straight game.
- Lymberis finishes the season with a career-high 22 goals and 28 points.
- Grace Curtin tallied three points on a pair of goals and an assist. The graduate student has 21 goals in her last seven games and finished the season with a career-best 35 goals and 49 points.
- Shea Berigan concluded the most productive season of her Monmouth career with a pair of fourth-quarter goals, giving her 44 scores on the year. Berigan has 13 multi-goal games.
- Olivia Castaldo scored a pair of goals in the final game of her rookie campaign. Castaldo finishes her first year on The Shore with 19 goals and 22 points.
- Katie Sullivan made 13 saves, recording double-digit stops for the fourth time in the last five games. She ends her junior season with a 48 percent save rate and 160 saves and is in fourth place on Monmouth's all-time saves list with 497 career saves.
- Monmouth finishes the season 9-8, earning its first winning record since 2023. Trautman has 66 career wins in nine seasons.
