CHICAGO, Ill. - Monmouth University men's soccer incoming freshman defender Matt Jeffery (Freehold, N.J. /Freehold Township) has been selected to the U.S. Under-18 Men's National Team training camp in Portland, Oregon, head coach Mike Matkovich announced. Jeffery is one of 24 players who will train from April 16-24, on the Nike Campus. The training camp will feature friendlies against the Portland Timbers on April 19, and will finish with a pair of friendlies on Saturday, April 23, against the University of Portland and the University of Washington.
"We are thoroughly excited for Matt," said Monmouth University head coach Robert McCourt. "He continues to get better and better as a player. Being selected for a national team camp is an honor. It is a chance to represent your country. This experience will serve him well in terms of his development. It is a wonderful opportunity."
Jeffery, from nearby Freehold Township High School, was a varsity starter for the Patriots for all four years. The team's captain, he was named All-Shore, all-county and All-State as a senior. He now plays for the PDA U-18 Academy team, and in 2010 helped lead the Parsippany Wolves to a State Cup Championship. He also participated in 2009 and 2010 for the Region 1 Olympic Development Team.
