RICHMOND, Va. – After helping the Hawks post their second straight shutout, Monmouth University men's soccer freshman defender
Marco Pantano was named the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week by league officials.
Â
Pantano, who was honored for the first time in his career, becomes Monmouth's second CAA Rookie of the Week (
Marcin Kluz – Aug. 25). Pantano is also the fourth Hawk to be honored by the CAA (Kluz,
Jasen Bottini – Sept. 8,
Raul Garcia – Sept. 22).
Â
Pantano played a key role in the Hawks picking up a win in their only match of the week and extending their current win streak to three straight.
Â
Making just his second career start, Pantano helped key a defensive unit that limited Temple to just five shots on goal in a 2-0 shutout. It was the second straight shutout for Pantano and the Monmouth defense.
Â
Pantano also scored his first career goal in the win for the Hawks and gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead in the first half.
Â
Pantano and the Hawks are back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 30 when they travel to Rutgers for a 7 p.m. match.
