The Monmouth University men's tennis team lost two matches over the weekend, a home conference contest with Quinnipiac University, 4-3, and a conference road bout against Mount Saint Mary's University, 5-2.
 
In Saturday's matchup with the Bobcats, MU earned points at third and fourth singles and took the doubles point. Sophomore Harveer Bhalla (Buckinghamshire, England/Dr. Challoner's Grammar School) blanked James Kwei in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4. David Sherwood (Little Egg Harbor, N.J./Pinelands) knocked off Alex Lazerowich at the fourth singles slot, 7-5, 6-0.
 
The Hawks took two of the doubles matches as Laurence Heads (Stockton-on-Tees, England/Repton School) combined with Ian Terpilowski (Mount Macedon, Victoria, Australia/Braemar College) to edge Andrew Weeden and Brian Mikkelson, 9-8. The duo of Stephen Suboleski and Amar Subasic (Sarajavo, Bosnia/Austin Peay) coasted to an 8-1 victory over QU's Corey Morgenstern and Micah Bailey.
 
The Blue and White won two points in the match at Mount Saint Mary's, at first and second singles. Bhalla competed in the first flight, knocking off Matt Blake 6-1, 6-2. In the second position, Sherwood swept Mike Saloman 6-2, 6-3.
 
With the losses, Monmouth falls to 6-11 overall on the season and 0-4 in NEC contests. The Hawks, the #4 seed, begin the Northeast Conference Tournament this Friday, after 2:00 p.m., against the #5 seed Robert Morris University at Mercer County Park in West Windsor, N.J.
