FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Former Monmouth University men's soccer standout Ryan Kinne (Naugatuck, Conn. /Naugatuck) has signed with the New England Revolution, the organization announced last week. Per Major League Soccer and team policies, terms of the deals were not released.
"It's amazing to realize my dream has come true and it's an honor to be playing at this level," said Kinne. "Now I need to continue to push myself and work to become a better player and have an impact for my team here in New England."
Kinne was selected in this year's Major League Soccer SuperDraft by the Revolution with the draft's sixth pick in the third round, the 42nd overall. He becomes the latest Hawk to play professionally during the tenure of Monmouth head coach Robert McCourt, joining teammate Bryan Meredith (Seattle Sounders FC), current assistant coach Hugh MacDonald (New York Red Bulls), Tommy Gray (Kansas City) and Damon Wilson (Austria).
"This is tremendous news for Ryan," said McCourt. "We are very happy for him. Ryan is a very talented player that has the work ethic of a young professional. From the first day of preseason Ryan has worked toward this day. It is a wonderful opportunity for him and his family."
Kinne became the first Hawk ever to earn back-to-back NSCAA First Team All-American honors, earned his second straight Northeast Conference Player of the Year award this season, and was one of only two repeat selections among the 15 men's semifinalists for the highest individual award in men's collegiate soccer, the Hermann Trophy. He also earned his third straight all-region first team honor this past season. In 77 career games, he scored 35 goals, adding 21 assists.
The Naugatuck, Conn. native was the Hawks' most consistent and dynamic offensive force this past season, leading the team in goals (12), points (29) and game-winning goals (4), while tying for the team-lead with five assists. The senior captain, who was ranked in the top-10 nationally in most major offensive categories all season, was also a three-time first-team all-league member.
He helped lead Monmouth to four straight Northeast Conference Regular Season Titles and back-to-back league tournament crowns.
