KIRBY MUNDORF NAMED NEC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.- Monmouth senior Kirby Mundorf (Cambridge, Md./Seton Keogh) has been named Northeast Conference Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week for the third time in the past four weeks, league officials announced Monday afternoon.

"Kirby's been very consistent this season," said head coach Denise Wescott.  "She definitely helps our defense be a much stronger unit.  She's seeing the ball well and is a leader for us.  Kirby has done a good job communicating with the defense to make it easier for her to make saves.  I think it's great she's being recognized, she's a very good goalie."

Mundorf wins her third NEC Defensive Player of the Week award of the year after stopping eight shots in Monmouth's 13-8 win over La Salle on Wednesday.  The senior from Cambridge, Md.  has now held opponents to single digit scoring four times this season, all Monmouth wins and has saved at least 50 percent of the shot attempts she has faced in five-of-seven outings on the year.  Mundorf currently leads the NEC with an 8.29 goals against average and .547 save percentage.  She also ranked second in the nation in save percentage in the most recent NCAA report.

At 5-2, Monmouth is off to its best start since the 2000 season.  Monmouth's scoring defense is ranked 19
th out of 92 Division I programs, allowing 8.33 goals per game.

Mundorf and the Hawks are back in action on Friday, March 25 at Central Connecticut State.
