WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University women's lacrosse team fell to William & Mary, 13-10, on Saturday afternoon at Kessler Stadium.
Monmouth moved to 7-5 overall and 0-3 in CAA play, while William & Mary improved to 7-4 and 2-1 in conference action.
Grace Curtin led the Hawks with four goals, matching her career high, while
Olivia Castaldo added two. Rismani recorded three points on one goal and two assists.
Marlaina Grimm contributed a goal and an assist. Netminder
Katie Sullivan made nine saves in cage for Monmouth.
The Hawks came out strong, scoring the game's first three goals behind a pair from Castaldo and another from Curtin to take a 3-0 lead midway through the opening quarter. Monmouth held William & Mary scoreless in the first period and carried the three-goal advantage into the second.
The Tribe responded with five unanswered goals in the second quarter to take its first lead of the game at 5-3. Monmouth answered late in the half, as Curtin scored three times in the final 3:06, including the go-ahead goal with three seconds remaining, to give the Hawks a 6-5 halftime lead
The Tribe took control in the third quarter, outscoring Monmouth 4-1 to build a 9-7 advantage heading into the final period. After
Sophia Lymberis pulled the Hawks within one, William & Mary closed the frame with a man-up goal to regain momentum.
William & Mary extended its lead to 11-7 early in the fourth before Monmouth responded with back-to-back free-position goals from
Shea Berigan and Grimm to cut the deficit to two. The Tribe answered with two more goals to push the lead to 13-9 with just over five minutes remaining.
Lauren Rismani scored with 3:29 left to make it 13-10, but Monmouth could not complete the comeback.

- Grace Curtin's four goals tied a career best. It was her third game this season with at least three goals.
- Olivia Castaldo notched her fourth multi-goal game of the year. The freshman has five goals in her last two games.
- Lauren Rismani had two assists, giving her a CAA-best 38 on the season. She also has a team-high 54 points on the year.
- Rismani has recorded a point in all 11 of the team's 12 games this season.
- Marlaina Grimm had her fifth multi-point effort of her freshman campaign.
- Shea Berigan tallied a goal, giving her 30 scores on the year.
- Monmouth led 6-5 at halftime after closing the second quarter on a 3-0 run.
