TRACK AND FIELD COMPETE AT COLLEGIATE CHALLENGE

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Monmouth University men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed in the Collegiate Challenge, Friday night at the Armory Track and Field Center.  The men's team earned six top-five finishes, including another IC4A qualifier, while the women registered five top-five finishes of their own.

Junior Garth DeBlasio (Millstone, N.J./Allentown) finished fifth in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:29.75, good to qualify for next weekend's IC4A championship.

Geoff Navarro (Mays Landing, N.J./Absegami) finished third overall in the 200 meter dash recording a time of 21.95 while the junior also took fourth in the 60 meter dash registering a time of 6.95. 

Rookie Jalen Walker (Burlington, N.J./BCIT/Burlington Township) took eighth in the 60 meter dash crossing the finish line in 8.40, while recording a time of 23.90 in the 200 meter dash.

Sophomore Sean Hartnett (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) was first to finish for the Blue and White in the mile run, posting a time of 4:22.28, good for 13th place while junior Ryan Mulligan (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) completed the race in 4:38.52.

Rookie Seth Robbins (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and junior Dan Collura (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) recorded times of 8:46.94 and 8:48.95 in the 3000 meter run, good for 10th and 11th, respectively.

Ford Palmer (Smithville, N.J./Absegami) took 12th in the 800 meter run, crossing the finish line in 1:57.00, while sophomore classmate Pat Egan (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson Regionals) finished in 1:57.26, good for 14th.

Freshmen classmates Bayaan Oluyadi (Union, N.J./Union) and Jon Marques (Linden, N.J./St. Joseph) finished the 400 meter dash in 50.32 and 50.36, good for 17th and 19th place, respectively.

Eric Fay (Yatesville, Pa./Pittston Area) took 15th in the 500 meter dash registering a time of 1:06.43.

Thrower Shane Carle (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) finished first in the shot put as the junior threw for 51' 5.75".

Tommy Butler (Union Bridge, Md./Francis Scott Key) registered a mark of 6' 7" in the high jump, placing the freshman third overall while classmate Ed Kramer (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) claimed a share of fifth place with his jump of 6' 5".

Senior Jason Kelsey (Ramsey, N.J./Don Bosco Prep)  cleared 22' .25" in the long jump to take sixth while junior Joshua Lewis (Montville, N.J./Montville Township) took seventh with his mark of 21' 11.5".

Junior Peter Matano (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) vaulted his way to a seventh place finish as he cleared 14' 11".

The women's 4x400 meter relay team of sophomore Rachel Watkins (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills), freshman Laura Williams (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick Township), juniors Ajda Dotday (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) and Colleen Rutecki (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) finished third, crossing the finish line in 3:53.32.

Sophomore Alison Day (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) took first in the high jump with her mark of 5' 7" while Watkins finished third with a clearance of  5' 5.25".  Lindsey Walsh (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) claimed a share of eighth with a jump of 5' 3.75".  The junior also ran a 9.25 in the 60 meter hurdles preliminaries.

Emily MacEwen (South Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) registered a time of 2:15.17 in the 800 meter run placing the sophomore fourth overall.

Sophomore Amanda Eller (Delmont, N.J./Millville) crossed the finish line in 2:57.40 to claim fifth in the 1000 meter run.

Sophomore Danielle Toritto (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East) ran 1:17.30 in the 500 meter dash to finish ninth overall.

Rookie Mercedes Yanora (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer Wilkes-Barre) took 12th in the 200 meter dash, posting a time of 25.83.

Freshman distance runner Lucia Montefusco (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) ran 2:19.in the 800 meter run.

Erin Szulewski ran 5:19 in the mile run.

The Hawks will travel to Boston, Massachusetts next weekend, March 5-6th for the ECAC/IC4A Championships.
