TRACK AND FIELD RANKED IN THE REGIONAL INDEX FOR SECOND STRAIGHT WEEK

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Monmouth University men's and women's track and field team are both ranked in the in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Mid-Atlantic Regional Index, officials announced Tuesday. The men's squad currently stands seventh, with 127.68 points, while the women's squad is listed eighth compiling 114.32 points.

The NCAA Division I Mid-Atlantic Region includes thirty-seven teams from five states including New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Delaware and Washington D.C.

Last weekend, the men's team was lead by Vincent Elardo (Forked River, N.J./Lacey) who extended his shot put winning streak to seven with his throw of 57' 2.75" to claim the top spot at the Boston University's Terrier Classic. Elardo ranks among the top-12 in shot put in the nation.

The men's squad also had three IC4A Championship qualifiers from the past weekend. Freshman Bayaan Oluyadi (Union, N.J./Union) crossed the finish line in 1:04.56 to claim fourth place, 500 meter dash. Oluyadi, along with Joe DiBianca (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest), freshman Jon Marques (Linden, N.J. /St. Joseph) and senior Jason Kelsey (Ramsey, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) placed 5th finishing the 4x400 relay team in 3:18.22.

The men's distance medley team consisting of sophomore Pat Egan (Whitman, Mass./Whitman-Hanson Regionals), senior Eric Fay (Yatesville, Pa./Pittston Area), sophomore Chris DelFattore (Colonia, N.J./John F Kennedy Memorial) and junior Garth DeBlasio (Millstone, N.J./Allentown) finished eighth recording a time of 10:14.27.

The women's squad also had its share of qualifiers for the ECAC Championships in March. The women's distance medley team of sophomore Amanda Eller (Delmont, N.J./Millville), sophomore Rachel Watkins (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) , sophomore Emily MacEwen (South Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) and graduate Christina Nelson (Little Silver, N.J. (Red Bank [Maryland]) finished second, posting a time of 11:53.77, which places them second all-time in school history.

Nelson also claimed the top spot in the 800 meter run finishing in 2:11.46, setting the new Monmouth school record in the event, erasing Taryn Phelps' time of 2:15.66 set in 2001.

Freshman Laura Williams (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick Township), sophomore Rachel Watkins (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills), Colleen Rutecki (Springfield, Pa./Springfield), and junior Ajda Dotday (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) finished third in the 4x400 meter relay, registering a time of 3:51.95.

Competing at the Bison Open hosted by Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, Lindsey Walsh (Mount Laurel, N.J. /Lenape) tallied 3563 points in the pentathlon to finish first overall.

Monmouth returns to action this weekend when it hosts the MU Blue-White Invitational at 10 a.m. at the Multipurpose Activity Center.
