CARLE LAST TO QUALIFY FOR IC4A?S AT SWARTHMORE LAST CHANCE MEET

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Competing at the appropriately named Swarthmore College Last Chance Meet in Swarthmore, Pa., Monmouth University men's track and field freshman thrower Shane Carle (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) posted the last qualifying mark for the Hawks going into this weekend's ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Championships in Princeton, N.J. As well, the women's 4x800 team, who was originally unable to compete at the Rutgers meet, ran a race held at Monmouth, trying to qualify for the ECAC's.

Becoming the fourth MU thrower to qualify for the IC4A's in shot put this season, as junior Vincent Elardo (Forked River, N.J./Lacey), and seniors Larry Lundy (Friendsville, Pa./Montrose Area) and Shawn Sabo (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) exceeded the qualifying mark earlier this season, Carle posted a throw of 15.62 meters (51' 3") to finish second overall with a new career-high throw at the Last Chance Meet and earn a trip to the IC4A Championships.

Held at Monmouth due to a lack of competitors in Piscataway, N.J. this past weekend, the Hawks 4x800 team was granted an extension from the Rutgers Invitational and allowed to run their relay on their home track with the goal of qualifying for the ECAC's. Competing against a handful of club teams, the team of freshmen Danielle Toritto (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East), Emily MacEwen (South Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) and Amanda Eller (Delmont, N.J./Millville) and senior Aracelis Lantigua (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) narrowly missed out on making the qualifying time as they finished first amongst the five teams crossing the tape in 9:19.00. Though the Blue and White didn't make the time needed to qualify for this weekend's ECAC's, it was good enough for the second best time in school history.

This upcoming weekend, the Hawks have 16 women who have qualified and will be competing at the ECAC Division I Championships while the men have 19 members who are eligible for the IC4A Championships. With athletes competing for MU in every event area, the Blue and White will be looking to make quite the impact at Princeton.

The Hawks will be traveling to Princeton, N.J. for the ECAC/IC4A Championships this Friday, May 14th - Sunday, May 16th hosted by Princeton. Times set for the meet are TBD.
