WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Monmouth University track and field program is set to host the 15th Annual Monmouth University Track & Field Outdoor Season Opener on Saturday, March 27th along with the men's and women's hammer and open mile on Friday, March 26th. Taking place on the E. Murray Todd Track at Kessler Field, the Hawks open up the outdoor season at home for the 15th straight year.
The meet begins on Friday at 2:00 pm with the women's hammer throw and continues with the men's hammer throw at 4:00 pm, while Friday's festivities conclude with the men's and women's open twilight run at 6:30 pm. Saturday features a full slate of events, beginning with the women's long jump at 9:30 am and the men's 10,000 meter run at 9:45 am. Races continue throughout the day with the women's 4x400 meter relay wrapping up the meet at 4:55 pm. All times are subject to change.
The Blue and White are expected to welcome over 1,000 athletes to this year's edition of the Season Opener, hailing from 75 schools including 20-25 Division I schools. Connecticut, Fordham, Hofstra, Marist, Princeton, Seton Hall, Stony Brook and Saint Peter's highlight this year's field while Northeast Conference foes Fairleigh Dickinson, Quinnipiac, Wagner and St. Francis (N.Y.) will also be competing.
Both the Monmouth men's and women's squads have enjoyed tremendous success competing on Kessler Field. The Blue and White men's team is undefeated at home since 1996, while the women's squad has lost just one time in that same span. The men have compiled a dual meet record of 105-1 in the last 14 years at the Monmouth Season Opener and the women have a record of 105-2. In 2009, both teams clinched the Northeast Conference Outdoor Track & Field championships on Monmouth's campus.
