WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Monmouth University midfielder and Hermann Trophy candidate Ryan Kinne (Naugatuck, Conn. /Naugatuck) has been named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com 'National Team of the Week', as well as earning BigAppleSoccer.com College Player of the Week honors, the two organizations announced on Monday afternoon. Kinne, a senior captain, helped lead the Hawks, ranked #10 in last week's NSCAA/HendrickCars.com National Top-25, to an unbeaten week in Northeast Conference play.
This marks the second time Kinne has claimed the BigAppleSoccer.com Player of the Week honor, also receiving the award in Week 1 (Sept. 6).
Kinne, who leads the Hawks with seven goals and three assists for 13 points this season, scored twice to help power MU passed in-state rival Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday.
Kinne struck for his first goal in the eighth minute when his header, off a long pass from junior Cesar Blacido (Ramsey, N.J.), found the back of the net. The senior then put the exclamation point on the match with the Knights when he intercepted a pass 30 yards from the goal and unleashed a laser to the upper 90 for his second goal. It was the 30th marker of his career, placing him in a tie with Steven Holloway (2003-06) for third on Monmouth's career goals list.
This week, Kinne and the Hawks embark on the NEC's Brooklyn road trip with road contests at Long Island on Friday at 4:00 pm and St. Francis College on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
