MEN'S TENNIS JOUSTED BY KNIGHTS IN CONFERENCE MATCH, 5-2

TEANECK, N.J. ? The Monmouth University men's tennis dropped an in-conference match against the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights, 5-2, on Tuesday afternoon in Teaneck, N.J. The Hawks posted two singles victories on the afternoon while losing the lone doubles point. Dropping their second straight NEC match, and seventh straight contest, the Hawks now own a 2-9 overall record in the spring while FDU improved to 5-6.

The Hawks fell in first and second singles action before freshman Laurance Heads (Stockton-on-Tees, England/Repton School) posted the first point in the match for the Blue and White with his 6-3, 4-6, 10-2, third singles win over the Knights' Marco Jemersic. Heads currently owns a team-best 8-3 record in singles action including a 2-0 record in the third singles spot.

Monmouth received their other point victory at fifth singles when sophomore Ian Terpilowski (Mount Macedon, Victoria, Australia/Braemar College) soundly defeated FDU's Dom Hemy, 6-3, 6-3.

Fighting for reign over the doubles point, the Hawks duo of freshman David Sherwood (Little Egg Harbor, N.J./Pinelands) and senior Tim McLane (Green Cove Springs, Fla./Seven Bridges Prep) provided a spark at third doubles with an 8-5 triumph over the Knights' Hemy and Quesada. The Hawks then fell short of the doubles point win when both first and second doubles notched duplicate 8-4 losses.

With third, fourth, and fifth singles competitors moving up in place of absent Corey Forrest (Ocala, Fla./Trinity Catholic), the bottom half of the Hawks singles lineup has produced an 18-13 overall record.

The Hawks return to the courts this upcoming Thursday afternoon when they return home to host Concordia College at Fireman's Field in Ocean, N.J. First serve is slated for 2:30 p.m.
