Will Campbell, who scored 16 straight points for the Hawks in the first half, finished with a team-high 20, to pace the Blue and White.
Corey Hassan's three-pointer at 17:40 gave the Pioneers an early 8-2 advantage, before
Mike Myers Keitt's short jumper pulled Monmouth within 8-4 at the 16:14 mark.
SHU pushed its advantage to 20-9 on a Chauncey Hardy trey at the 12:15 mark, before Campbell's three-pointer trimmed the lead to 24-17 with 8:46 showing.
Campbell's trey at the 8:46 mark started the guard's string of 16 straight points, including four threes, as Monmouth pulled within 35-30, with 4:01 on the clock.
After Monmouth trimmed the game to five, the Pioneers scored the next seven points, capped by Jerrell Thompson's drive, to reclaim a 42-30 lead, before a
Yaniv Simpson jump shot, with 12 ticks left, made the score 42-32 at the break.
Hassan drilled a three-pointer 29 seconds into the second half, to push SHU's advantage to 45-32, before
Travis Taylor's three-point play made the score 45-35 with 19:09 left to play.
Myers Keitt's jump shot pulled the Hawks within 49-39 at 17:14, but the Pioneers answered with a 19-3 run to snare a 68-42 edge with 11:39 left.
A trifecta from
Alex Nunner made the score 70-47 with 9:08 remaining, and Simpson's trey pulled Monmouth within 72-50 with 8:26 left.
With the road defeat, Monmouth falls to 7-22 overall and 5-11 in the NEC, and has now lost 17 straight road contests.
Campbell, who notched his fourth 20-point outing in the last eight games, has scored in double-figures in nine straight contests. Nunner added 13 points off the bench, while Myers Keitt chipped in with 12 points.
Sacred Heart, which boasts the league's highest-scoring offense, was paced by Joey Henley's 22 points, while Hassan added 18, as the Pioneers hit 58.2% from the field for the game.
Monmouth returns to action on Thursday, February 26, when the Hawks travel to Central Connecticut State for a Northeast Conference contest. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
