LORETTO, Pa.- Monmouth University's women's lacrosse team enjoyed a 19 goal output against St. Francis University en route to winning their 10th victory of the 2008 season on Friday night.
Monmouth was led offensively by sophomore Ali Pollock (Watervliet, N.Y./Shaker) who had six points on two goals and four assists. Freshman Rachel Feirstein (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown East) continued to assault opposing team's nets, earning her second four-goal performance of the week on Friday night.
It took MU senior Ashley Waldman (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional) 47 seconds to score the Hawks' first goal of the night. Pollock followed suit less than a minute later with Waldman scoring two more unassisted, unanswered goals. Nutter tallied a goal to put MU up 5-0, before senior Brittany Scott (Freehold, N.J./Freehold) put one in the back of the net. SFU's Meghan Crosby scored her team's first goal with 12:33 to play in the first half but by then MU had built a 12-1 lead. The Hawks had control of the game going into the break at halftime with a 15-1 lead. MU scored the first four goals of the period with the Red Flash scoring the final two.
Scott and Nutter finished with three goals each, while Nutter had two goals and an assist on the evening. Evans had two, with three other Hawks tallying a goal in the match.
Monica Johnson (Radnor, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) and Kirby Mundorf (Catonsville, Md./Seton Keogh) split time in the cage for the Hawks, while SFU's Danielle Pokusa played 44 minutes allowing 17 goals with four saves. MU outshot Saint Francis 37-4, while winning 18 of the 21 total draw controls.
The Hawks improve to 10-4 on the season, including a 4-1 mark in Northeast Conference play. The Red Flash drop to 0-12 overall. Monmouth is back in action on Sunday when they travel to Pittsburgh, Pa. to face Robert Morris for a 1 p.m. tilt.
