WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.- Monmouth University track & field athletes Michelle Losey (Piscataway, N.J./Piscatway) and Christian Keller (Matawan, N.J./Matawan) have been named Northeast Conference Track Athlete of the Week and Field Athlete of the Week, respectively, conference officials announced on Tuesday. Keller was also named ECAC Co-Field Athlete of the Week.
Losey, a sprinter for the Hawks, helped the Blue & White secure a victory at the 13th Annual Monmouth Season Opener this past weekend. Losey won the 400m dash (57.64), placed fourth in the 200m (25.35) and was the lead off runner in Monmouth's winning 4x400 relay squad that crossed the line in 4:01.32. She also was the first runner in MU's third place 4x100 relay team as the Hawks defeated all five of the other Division I teams at the dual scored meet.
Keller had an impressive outing at the Season Opener, earning the top spot among collegiate competitors in three separate events. The senior helped Monmouth stay undefeated in MU Season Openers after winning the discus (157' 11”) and the hammer throw (179' 5”) while finishing in second behind former Hawk All-American Jon Kalnas, who was competing unattached, in the shot put (52' 8”). In just his first meet of the 2008 outdoor season, all three of Keller's marks qualified him for this spring's IC4A Division I Championships. In a release later in the week, Keller was also named Co-ECAC Field Athlete of the Week.
The team will be split this weekend, with some athletes participating at Princeton University and the others going to the Colonial Relays hosted on the campus of William & Mary.
