LOCK HAVEN, Pa.? The Monmouth Field Hockey team suffered an NEC conference setback losing to reigning NEC champions, Lock Haven, 3-0 on Friday afternoon in Lock Haven, Pa. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 2-3 in NEC as the Eagles improve to 5-0 on the late season.
Lock Haven jumped on the board 29 minutes into the game when Emma Wessner took a pass from former NEC conference player of the year, Blair Wynne to put the Eagles up 1-0 into halftime.
Coming out of the half, the Eagles knocked in two goals ? just seconds apart ? to put Lock Haven up 3-0, which remained the same until the end of the game. Despite the loss, Monmouth goalie Melissa Katz (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional) made a game-high 10 saves, keeping the Hawks into the game throughout.
Senior Molly Passarella (Atco, N.J./Hammonton) posted a team-high four shots on goal for the Hawks. Seniors Enza Mazza (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional) and Aileen Bosmans (Oakhurst, N.J.) each slapped a shot on goal a piece in the game as well. The Hawks were outshot in the game, 21-10, but controlled the corner opportunities, 10-9.
Monmouth is now 3-13 on the season, having their season-high two game win streak broken. The Hawks still control their fate as they will need to win the next two NEC games ? on the road against Siena and Rider - in order to be in the NEC playoff race.
The Hawks continue their road trek this Sunday, October 26th as they travel to Siena for an NEC match with start time slated for 12:00 p.m.
