TOM GRAY SELECTED BY KANSAS CITY IN MLS SUPPLEMENTAL DRAFT

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Monmouth University midfielder Tom Gray (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) was selected by the Kansas City Wizards in the third round of the Major League Soccer (MLS) Supplemental Draft. Gray, a three-time All-NEC player, will battle for a roster spot as the MLS regular season is set to open in two months.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for Tommy," said Monmouth head coach Robert McCourt, a three-time NEC Coach of the Year. " He has been an integral part of our program's success and is deserving of this opportunity. It speaks volumes for the progress of the program. Having two players (Hugh MacDonald, Red Bull New York) get MLS opportunities in the last two years is a testament to the caliber of players we have been able to attract to Monmouth. We wish Tommy the best of luck in his pro soccer endeavor."

Gray, who was added to the Hermann Trophy Watch List at the beginning of the 2007 season, led Monmouth to three straight Northeast Conference regular season championships, and an appearance in the 2006 NCAA Tournament. During his tenure with the Hawks, the program received its first national ranking, defeated two nationally-ranked opponents, registered a 24-game unbeaten streak in conference play and Gray posted 53 points, on 14 goals and 25 assists.
