MEN'S SOCCER POSTS SHUTOUT IN SCORELESS DRAW WITH GEORGE MASON

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Monmouth University men's soccer team battled to a scoreless draw with visiting George Mason, on The Great Lawn, on Wednesday afternoon. The Hawks improve to 4-1-1 (3-0-1 at home), while the Patriots stand at 2-2-1 on the year. The shutout is Monmouth's fourth of the season, while the Hawks' home unbeaten streak increased to 13 matches.

Monmouth's Daniel Schenkel and GMU's Sean Kelley each registered shutouts in the match. Schenkel made one save in net for the Blue and White and was saved by teammate Ryan Kinne in the first overtime, who cleared a ball off the line after a corner kick service. Kelley made three saves for George Mason, improving his record to 2-2-1.

George Mason held a slight 6-5 edge in shots in 110 minutes of action, as reserve Ernesto Marquez fired three chances. Monmouth's Tom Gray recorded three shots for the Hawks.

"Overall, I am pleased with the effort today," said head coach Robert McCourt, "despite missing a few starting players."

Monmouth returns to action on Saturday, September 22, when the Hawks host Iona at 2 p.m., on The Great Lawn.
