Monmouth University centerfielder Nichole Alvarez (Brick, N.J./Brick Twp.) has been named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week as she helped the Hawks' softball team go 6-4 at the Rebel Games in Orlando, Florida this past week.
Alvarez went 20-for-32 on the week, including six multi-hit efforts out of 10 games played. In the opening game, a 2-0 loss to South Dakota State, she was a perfect four-for-four at the plate. The Ocean County native then helped the Hawks to rattle off five straight wins. The speedster also scored 14 runs and logged eight RBI. In a 8-3 win over La Salle, the sophomore went 3-for-4 with a triple, three RBI and two stolen bases. The NEC Player of the Week also brought around three of her teammates in the 14-2 rout of IPFW going 2-for-3 with two runs scored. On the week, she hit .625.
The Hawks return to action on Friday, March 16 when they travel to Georgetown, Delaware for the Mizuno Bash at the Beach. MU opens the tournament when they take on Providence and Niagara on Friday afternoon.
