CAROLYN RAVEIA NAMED MONMOUTH NJAIAW WOMAN OF THE YEAR

WEST LONG BRANCH- Monmouth University senior Carolyn Raveia (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) was named NJAIAW Woman of the Year for her outstanding achievements in the sport of lacrosse, in the classroom and in community service.

"I'm very proud of and excited for Carolyn to be honored as the Monmouth NJAIAW Woman of the Year,” said head lacrosse coach Kelly McCardell.  “Carolyn is a dedicated student-athlete who works very hard to succeed in the classroom and on the playing field.”

The attacker is a three-year starter with the Hawks and will serve as a tri-captain this season.  Raveia has been a First-Team All-Conference selection, a NEC All-Tournament team selection and has either led the Hawks in scoring or been second in each of her seasons in West Long Branch.  Academically, Raveia owns one of the finest grade point averages in the athletic department, with a 3.72.  She has been named to Monmouth's Dean's List for six straight semesters and owns a 3.86 GPA in her major (communications).  In the community, the Fairfax, Va., native has participated in numerous programs including Adopt-A-Soldier (sent supplies overseas for troops), Lacrosse for Katrina (helped raised funds for Katrina victims) along with volunteering hours at local hospitals and the Food Bank of New Jersey.

“Carolyn is deserving of this recognition as she encompasses what is means to be a Monmouth student-athlete and she will be a great representative of our lacrosse program and the Monmouth athletic department at the luncheon on Sunday,” said McCardell.

Raveia will be honored at the annual NJAIAW luncheon on Sunday on the campus of Seton Hall University.  The luncheon will be held at 12 p.m. on Sunday, then the honorees from all of the New Jersey Colleges and Universities will be presented with an award at halftime of the Pirates' women's basketball a game against Villanova, which is also is National Girls and Women in Sports Day at Seton Hall.
