WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Monmouth University women's lacrosse team dropped its conference opener on Sunday afternoon, falling to No. 18 Stony Brook, 18–8, at Kessler Stadium.
Shea Berigan led the Hawks offensively with a career-best five-goal performance, while
Marlaina Grimm added two goals and
Grace Curtin chipped in one.
Curtin also paced the Monmouth attack with four assists.
Sophia Ianno and
Sophia Lymberis each added a helper, while Berigan contributed an assist to finish with six points on the day, matching her career-high.
Stony Brook opened the scoring early, but Berigan answered with Monmouth's first goal of the game as the Seawolves carried a 2–1 lead after the opening quarter.
The visitors used a strong second period to pull away, outscoring the Hawks 7–1 in the frame to take a 9–2 advantage into halftime.
Monmouth found more rhythm offensively in the third quarter. Grimm and Berigan both scored during the period as the Hawks tallied three goals, but Stony Brook maintained control with three goals of its own to hold a 12–5 lead heading into the final frame.
Berigan added two more goals in the fourth period and Curtin scored late for Monmouth, while the Seawolves closed the game with six goals to secure the 18–8 result.

- Sophia Lymberis had an assist, giving her points in 12 of her last 13 games.
- Sophia Ianno picked up an assist, earning her second point of the season.
- In net, Katie Sullivan made 14 saves, her fourth game this year reaching double figures.
- Gen Mullervy had a pair of caused turnovers giving her seven on the season
