PRINCETON, N.J.- Monmouth University's track & field teams had an impressive showing on Saturday at the Princeton Inviational, let by senior Chris Vuono's (Wall, N.J./CBA) IC4A qualifying time in the 500m.
Vuono won the 500m with a time of 1:04.61, earning him a spot in this winter's IC4A Division I Championships. He was also the anchor leg on the winning 4x400 squad (3:22.00), which was also comprised of Bill Doherty (Madison, N.J./Madison), Adam Liebensperger (Zionsville, N.J./Emmaus) and freshman Reginald McLeod (Jersey City, N.J./Dr. Ronald E McNair Academic).
McLeod also took third in the 500m, finishing in 1:05.65. Fellow rookie Tom Ciccoli (King of Prussia, Pa./Archbishop) set a new freshman school record in the shot put with his toss of 51'0”, which was the second overall mark and the top throw for a current collegian. Christian Keller (Matawan, N.J./Matawan) took third overall with a throw of 50'0”, while the event was won by former MU All-American John Kalnas.
Ed Skowronski was third in the weight throw (58'6”), while Keller was fourth in the event with his throw of 57' 6”. Julio Rodriguez (Bound Brook, N.J./Bound Brook) was fifth in the high jump (6' 1 ?”), with Jason Kelsey (Ramsey, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) finishing seventh in the long jump, clearing a distance of 22' 1 ?”.
Sophomore Chris Taiwo (Budd Lake, N.J./Mt. Olive) finished sixth in the 60m, crossing the line in 7.13, with Dave Martell (Gibbsboro, N.J./Eastern Regional) right behind him for a seventh place finish.
The meet was the final event of the 2007 season for the Hawks, who return to action on Jan. 11 at the Fordham Collegiate Opener.
