MEN'S SOCCER FALLS 2-1 IN DOUBLE OT AT ROBERT MORRIS

MOON TOWNSHIP, PA. - Forward Dwayne Chin scored his second goal in the 104th minute to lift the Robert Morris University men's soccer team to a 2-1 double overtime win over Monmouth in Northeast Conference play on Friday afternoon. The win improves the Colonials to 7-7-3 overall and 2-4-2 in the NEC, while Monmouth falls to 11-4-2 and 6-2-0 in conference.

With the game tied 1-1 in the second overtime, RMU senior Ryan Zabinski took control of the ball near midfield. After splitting a pair of defenders, Zabinski carried diagonally toward the Monmouth net, touching the ball into the right side of the box for Chin. Chin took one touch and then placed a shot left passed a charging Hawks' goalkeeper Daniel Schenkel and into the net for the winning goal in double-overtime.

After a scoreless first half, Robert Morris took the lead in the 76th minute, as Jacek Przednowek played a cross into the box where Tim Kovack touched the ball across to Chin for the score.

The lead, however, was short lived when a Robert Morris defender pushed a Hawk player from behind in the penalty box giving Monmouth a penalty kick. Damon Wilson buried the free chance in the low left corner, knotting the game in the 80th minute. The score was Wilson's team-leading seventh goal on the year.

Monmouth held a 20-17 advantage in shots, forcing RMU goaltender Matt Felice to make 11 saves, tying his season and career high. Schenkel finished with six saves for the Hawks, who had a 13-5 edge in corner kick opportunities. Robert Morris was whistled for 21 fouls in the match, compared to Monmouth's nine infractions.

Monmouth returns to action on Sunday, November 4, when the Hawks travel to Saint Francis (Pa.) in their NEC regular season finale. The match-up will decide the regular season champion, and host for the upcoming NEC Tournament, as SFU enters one point ahead of the Hawks for the top seed.
