LOUDONVLLE, N.Y. ? The Monmouth University field hockey team won their fourth straight game, and third in a row to begin their Northeast Conference schedule, 1-0 over Siena Friday afternoon at Siena Turf Field in upstate New York. The Hawks are now 4-7 and 3-0 in the league, while Siena falls to 1-8 and 1-3 in the NEC.
“We had a lot of opportunities to finish, but this win is very critical for us,” said head coach Carli Figlio. “We have a huge weekend coming up with some very big conference games, and all of our focus is on that now.”
The Hawks have won four straight games for the first since 2000, also the last time MU started 3-0 in NEC play.
The match's lone goal came in the 35th minute when senior Hollee Hooven (Flemington, N.J./Huntderdon Central) scored the game-winner, her second tally of the season.
Melissa Katz (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional) made six saves in goal to earn her first shutout in a Monmouth University uniform.
For the game, MU outshot Siena 18-10, including 10-2 in the first half, and held a 19-10 advantage in penalty corner opportunities.
The Hawks now return home for a stretch of three crucial Northeast Conference games, beginning Friday, October 12 when they host Saint Francis [Pa.] at 3:00 p.m.
