WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Monmouth University junior
Daniel Schenkel (Campo Verde, Brazil) was named to the
Top Drawer Soccer Men's College Team of the Week, on Tuesday afternoon.
Schenkel registered two shutouts over the week, increasing his league-leading total to 11 matches in 2006. The 11 blanks also sets a new school-record, as the Hawks posted 10 shutouts during last year's run to the NEC Championship game. Schenkel topped
Art Satterwhite's record on Sunday, when the goalkeeper made three saves in a 1-0 win over Sacred Heart.
Schenkel, who ranks seventh in the nation in goals against average, is also in the top-ten in save percentage (.870).
The junior earned his tenth shutout on Friday, as the #15-ranked Hawks battled to a scoreless double overtime draw against Fairleigh Dickinson.
Monmouth, which earned its second straight Northeast Conference regular season title on Sunday, returns to action on Friday, November 3, when the Hawks host Robert Morris in the first NEC semifinal, a rematch of last season's title game.
