Former Monmouth field hockey standout Alex Carroll returns for her fourth year on the sidelines, her second as a full-time assistant after two years of volunteering. Carroll, a defender by trade, will work with the defensive corps with focus on the goalkeepers.

Carroll’s responsibilities also include practice planning and execution, travel preparation, scouting and compliance. Aside from in-game coaching and practices, Carroll is responsible for evaluating potential student-athletes and monitoring academic progress. 

In her first year as a full-time assistant, Carroll helped the team to its best season in program history, culminating with the 2016 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.  The Hawks posted a record 10 shutouts and their 0.50 shutouts per game ranked first in the country while the 1.26 goals against average was good for sixth in the nation.  Christen Piersanti, who finished the year ranked top-five nationally in goals against average (3rd; 1.20) and win-loss percentage (4th; .850), was named the MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year. the ECAC Defensive Player of the Year and was tabbed to the NFHCA All-Mid-Atlantic Team for the first time in her career.  

Carroll, who was named the MAAC Defensive and Player of the Year in 2013, was tabbed to the All-MAAC First Team after finishing second on the team with 25 points. She became the third Hawk in program history to earn conference player of the year honors, while becoming the program’s first defensive player of the year in the inaugural year of MAAC Field Hockey. The Oceanport, N.J. native, who was named to the 2013 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Mid-Atlantic Second, finished her career top five all-time in Monmouth history in goals (31), assists (20) and points (82).
