Hawks conclude their fourth year in the CAA with 16 postseason appearances among 24 programs in an illustrious 2025-26 campaign

West Long Branch, NJ — The Monmouth Hawks officially concluded an illustrious 2025-26 campaign in its fourth season in the CAA.

Men's Track and Field redshirt graduate student Evan Niedrowski officially finalized the year with his third appearance in the national championship meet in Eugene Oregon Wednesday to conclude a prolific year for the Hawks.
 
 
Hawks 2025-26 at a glance:
Five programs were recognized for their prowess in the classroom, as men's basketball, men's golf, women's golf, softball and women's lacrosse all earned NCAA Public Recognition.

In the fall, football, men's soccer, women's soccer and field hockey combined for an overall record of 37-21-5 including a robust 18-8-4 finish in the CAA combined with men's and women's soccer and field hockey earning a spot in the postseason, while football finished the year ranked No. 20  in the national coaches poll and just missed out on their first FCS Playoff after a historic run.

There were a combined 32 CAA Player of the Week recognitions (14 Offensive, seven Defensive and 11 Rookie). Four Hawks were named for either a CAA Offensive, Defensive Player, Defensive Rookie or Rooke of the Year honor with field hockey coach Carli Figlio earning CAA Coach of the Year honors. The fall totaled 11 first team, six second team, three third team, three honorable mention and three All-Rookie All-CAA selections, including three more who earned All-CAA recognition on no specific team.
Academic Report 2025-26

The winter sports combined for a 96-58 overall record and 23-14 in the CAA. Bowling ranked No. 18 in the final NTCA Power Index Rankings and No. 18 in the NTCA Top 25 poll, including No. 15 in the RPI. Women's Basketball qualified for the WNIT for the second time in the last three years, while men's basketball made its first CAA Finals appearance.  

The winter totaled seven CAA weekly honors and three CAA Rookie Swimmers of the Month. There were six All-CAA selections, including Rookie of the Year honors for men's swimming's Izan Arroyo Lopez del Castillo with two more All-NEC picks in bowling. Additionally, there were nine first place finishes from indoor track at the Metropolitan Indoor Championships with men's track junior Aiden Baldelli qualifying for the USATF Indoor Championships in the 60-meter dash. Nine College Sports Communicators Academic All-District nods were awarded among women's basketball and men's and women's swimming.

For the spring, the Hawks baseball, softball, men's and women's lacrosse and men's and women's tennis teams combined for an overall record of 82-88 and 36-37 in the CAA with 16 weekly honors throughout the semester.

The spring brought Monmouth 17 All-CAA honorees across first, second, honorable mention and All-Rookie teams including Goalie of the Year honors for women's lacrosse junior Katie Sullivan.
As of June 11, the Hawks garnered 30 CSC Academic All-District selections with at-large and outdoor track and field still to be announced.

Baseball
Overall Record: 30-23
CAA Record: 20-10
Postseason Finish: Advanced into Day 3 of the CAA tournament

Highlights:
The Hawks baseball team advanced into Day 3 of the CAA Postseason Tournament for the first time in program history and reached 30 wins for the first time since the 2018 season and the 12th time under head coach Dean Ehehalt. The program boasted one of the best offenses in the CAA, notching 60 homers on the year which marked the most since 2022 with six players tallying at least four.

It was the first time since 2022 the program earned a postseason appearance, and first competing in the CAA postseason tournament where they advanced to the second round after bouncing back with a 7-2 victory over No. 5 seed College of Charleston in an elimination game. The postseason victory marked the first since 2019.

After a stellar regular season, Monmouth garnered a program-record six selections to the All-CAA squad including junior second baseman Wyatt Hunt and senior outfielder Nick Lovarco who took home first team honors. They were joined by senior third baseman Simmi Whitehill and fifth-year reliever Kevin Opanel on the second team and junior first baseball Chris Walsh and senior reliever Austin Beard on honorable mention.

Not only were the six selects the most since joining the CAA, but the most all conference picks since the 2021 season in the MAAC.

Both Hunt and sophomore Colin Richter earned a spot on the College Sports Communicators All-District Team for their prowess on the field and in the classroom.


Men's Basketball
Overall Record: 19-15
CAA Record: 11-7
Postseason Finish: CAA Championship appearance

Highlights:
The Hawks made program history this past winter after securing a spot in the CAA Championship game for the first time since joining the league in 2022. The team totaled 10 home victories, marking the fifth time under head coach King Rice that the team secured 10 home wins.

Junior guard Jason Rivera-Torres was named as a Second Team All-CAA selection and was the program's first ever CAA All-Defensive Team honoree, while becoming the second player in program history to receive second team recognition since joining the CAA. He landed top 10 in the CAA for scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, free throw percentage, blocks, steals and minutes.

Senior guard Jack Collins was named as a finalist for the Nolan Richardson Award. Collins ranked third in the CAA in assists and second in steals, while finishing fifth in minutes played per game.


Women's Basketball
Overall Record: 21-12
CAA Record: 12-6
Postseason Finish: CAA Quarterfinals appearance / WNIT Second Round

Highlights:
The Hawks women's basketball program totaled 21-wins on the year to notch its 20-win season for just the second time in 15 years and fifth ever in program history under second-year head coach Cait Wetmore. The year was highlighted by an eight-game winning streak with 11 home victories and a top five finish in the CAA Standings, making both the CAA postseason tournament and an appearance in the WNIT Tournament.

The program earned an at-large bid into the WNIT, marking the third appearance in the tournament. The team secured just its second win in the WNIT after earning a 72-62 victory in the first round over Lehigh.

Three Hawks earned postseason honors, including first team All-CAA honors for senior guard Gigi Gamble who became just the second Hawk ever to boast first team honors in the CAA, while senior forward Divine Dibula named to All-CAA Second Team and freshman guard Madalena Amaro securing a spot on the All-CAA Rookie Team.  Gamble had one of the most productive offensive seasons in recent history, ranking fifth in the CAA with a team-best 14.7 points per game, the highest scoring average by a Hawk since the 2011-12 season. Dibula ranked eighth in the CAA in points per game and tallied a career-high five double-double outings with the most memorable in a 62-60 double overtime victory over Drexel where she totaled 24 points, 15 rebounds and the game-winning bucket. She finished ranked No. 18 nationally in field goal percentage to also lead the CAA.


Bowling
Overall Record: 47-24
Postseason Finish: second round appearance in NEC Championship

Highlights:
Bowling won 47 matches and qualified for the NEC Championships for the second consecutive season this past year. The Hawks were nationally recognized throughout the year, appearing in the NTCA top 25 poll, climbing as high as No. 15 nationally in December and recorded 12 wins over ranked opponents along with three event titles.

At USBC Sections in Addison, Illinois, the Hawks finished eighth overall amongst 25 teams and after earning a No. 3 seed in the NEC Championships, they came back to earn a spot in the second round after defeating No. 1 Niagara in the elimination round to land in the loser's bracket final against Mercyhurst.

The team had two bowlers named All-NEC including first-team for sophomore Kailyn Bloch and second team honors for junior Morgan Davis.


Men's Cross Country:
CAA Finish: 5th of 11 teams

Highlights:
The men's cross country program earned three top 5 finishes this past fall as a program, including a fifth place standing at the CAA Championships Oct. 31 at Ocean County Park. The Hawks also notched a fifth-place team standing at the Temple Owl Invitational Aug. 29, along with a third-place finish at the Jersey Jam on Sept. 5.

Graduate student Tennessee Tremain ran a team-best 24 minutes, 12.5 seconds in the men's 8K at CAA Championships to secure All-CAA honors and setting a new personal best mark.


Women's Cross Country
CAA Finish: 4th of 12 teams

Highlights:
The women's cross country program earned a top four finish this past season at the CAA Championships, led by All-CAA selects sophomore Krissy Sarnicola and senior Brianna Jucewicz who finished eighth and ninth, respectively.

Jucewicz ran a 21:19.8 in the women's 6K at the conference meet, to secure a ninth place standing, while Sarnicola clocked in with a time of 21:20.10, following just behind in 10th. Both Hawks set career-best marks in the race to aid in the fourth place standing at the meet.

Jucewicz tallied a top 100 finish at the NCAA Division I Mid-Atlantic Region Championships after crossing in a time of 21:53.3.


Field Hockey
Overall Record: 13-4
CAA Record: 5-0
Postseason Finish: CAA Finals appearance

Highlights:
The Hawks field hockey program boasted its sixth-straight CAA regular season title after going 5-0 through the regular season to earn the No. 1 seed going into the CAA postseason tournament.

Through an illustrious regular season, the team earned a program-best NFHCA No. 11 nationally ranking after going 12-3 through the regular season where they defeated No. 17 nationally ranked Rutgers on the road. Head coach Carli Figlio was named to her third CAA Coach of the Year with six Hawks honored as CAA all-conference including Rookie of the Year honors for Florence van Doorn and the program's first ever Defensive Player of the Year in Eulalie Brouwers. Both van Doorn and Brouwers, along with teammates Claire Campen and Mila Frye were recognized as Mid-Atlantic All-Region picks, including a first team pick for van Doorn.

Additionally, Figlio eclipsed her 200th victory, which came in a 7-1 win over Rider early in the year before leading her program to their third straight CAA Finals appearance.


Football
Overall Record:9-3
CAA Record: 6-2 (finished third in final standings)

Highlights:
Monmouth had one of its best seasons in recent memory, winning the most games (9) since 2019, while earning a program-best 6-2 finish since joining the CAA in 2022 and was on the fringe of making their first FCS Playoffs.

Their biggest victory on the year came in front of the program's first sold-out crowd since 2021 at Kessler Stadium against No. 12/11 nationally ranked Villanova where the Hawks scored 51 points in 600-plus yards of total offense include 240 on the ground, while eclipsing 50 points scored for the seventh time since joining the CAA.

The victory helped elevate the program to their highest national ranking ever, reaching No. 6 in the top 25 poll. The nine wins was the sixth time in program history to reach the mark as the team produced 13 All-CAA selections with redshirt sophomore running back Rodney Nelson and redshirt freshman defensive lineman Lamont Lester Jr. named CAA Offensive Player and Defensive Rookie of the Year. Additionally, five All-Americans including Lester Jr., Nelson, graduate offensive lineman JT Cornelius, sophomore wide receiver Josh Derry and junior defensive back Jaeden Jones. Derry and Nelson were both named as finalist for the 2025 FCS Player of the Year award.

Wide receiver TJ Speight went on to sign a contract with the Canadian Football League's Ottawa RedBlacks, while quarterback Derek Robertson and Cornelius earned a multitude of invites to NFL pro days this past spring with Robertson also landing a minicamp invite with the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars.

The season also was the last for legendary head coach Kevin Callahan who, over the course of his illustrious 33-year career, won more games (197) than any other active FCS coach. Associate Head coach Jeff Gallo was promoted to take the reins from Callahan entering 2026, as the back-to-back FCS Coordinator of the Year finalist looks to build off the success of 2025.

The Hawks finished ranked No. 20 in the AFCA Coaches and No. 22 in the STATS Perform FCS Top 25 polls. Their offense finished No. 1 in the country in total offense and ranked first in the CAA in five offensive categories. Throughout the season, they earned No. 6 and No. 7 rankings by the AFCA Coaches and STATS Perform FCS poll, which notched their highest standing in program history.


Men's Golf
CAA Finish: 10th of 10 teams

Highlights:
The Hawks men's golf program competed in nine events this season and finished 10th at the CAA Championships down in South Carolina. Their top team finish was a runner-up result at the Sacred Heart Spring Invite where they totaled eight individual rounds under par, along with five top 10 individual finishes.

Ethan Lee earned second place at the Sacred Heart Spring Break Invite March 9 to help the Hawks land second as a team in the match for their highest team placing of their nine events on the year. The team additionally placed fourth of 14 teams March 21-22 at The Carpetbagger Classic hosted by Binghamton University.
 

Women's Golf
CAA Finish: seventh of nine teams
Highlights:

The Hawks women's golf program competed in 10 events this season and recorded a top five finish at the Navy Fall Invite while also posting a pair of even-par individual rounds throughout the year.

The women's golf program also scored the highest GPA on the women's side for the spring and second overall only to men's tennis with a 3.80 during the spring semester and a cumulative average of 3.78.

Rising junior Dannah Smith also recently took home the championship trophy at the NYS Women's Four-Ball Championship June 4.


Men's Lacrosse
Overall Record: 6-7
CAA Record: 3-3
Postseason Finish: CAA semifinal appearance

Highlights:
The men's lacrosse program made history by securing their first playoff berth into the CAA Tournament after finishing 3-3 in the CAA. The team secured the most wins since 2021 after finishing 6-7 overall and ending the regular season at .500.

Senior attacker Ty Caffarelli broke the program's single season goal record after scoring the opening goal in a regular season finale 14-11 win over Fairfield to clinch the team's first CAA postseason berth.

Caffarelli went on to become a First Team All-CAA selection and ended his career as the first and only player in program history to surpass 100 career goals and is currently second all-time in points. He finished second in the CAA and eighth nationally in goals per game (3.08), while also finishing fourth in the conference in points per game (3.67).

Graduate midfielder Nick Teets also landed First Team All-CAA honors, while sophomore faceoff specialist Landon Parker and senior defenseman Miles Edmiston earned Second Team All-CAA. Freshman defenseman Kevin Ring landed on the CAA All-Rookie Team.


Women's Lacrosse
Overall Record: 9-8
CAA Record: 1-6
Postseason Finish: n/a

Highlights:
The women's lacrosse program clinched a winning record for the first time since the 2023 season after finishing 9-8 overall with a CAA victory over Campbell at home April 4, 17-12.
Graduate attacker Lauren Rismani set a new single season program record with 57 assists, while cementing a new CAA single season record with a 3.35 assists per game average and led the team with 72 points on the year.

Seven Hawks reached 20 points, including senior attacker Shea Berigan who had a team-high 42 goals, along with graduate attacker Grace Curtin who set a new career-high with 46 points. Junior goalie Katie Sullivan was second in the CAA with 160 total saves, while her 9.4 saves per game average and 48.2 saver percentage ranked first in the conference.

Sullivan was named the CAA Goalkeeper of the Year with Sullivan and Rismani landing First Team All-CAA honors, while freshman midfielder Marlaina Grimm named to the All-CAA Rookie Team. Sullivan became the first player in program history to win a major CAA award and the first conference Goalie of the Year selection since 2013 in the NEC.

The three All-CAA selections for the Hawks were the most in a single season since joining the conference since 2023.

As a team, Monmouth led the CAA in shot percentage, save percentage and landed second in assists per game and points per game. Rismani led the CAA in assists per game, while ranking second in points per game.


Rowing
CAA Finish: sixth of six teams (CAA 3V8 F1), sixth of seven teams (CAA V4 F1), seventh of seven teams (CAA 2V8 F1), seventh of seven teams (CAA V8 F1)

Highlights:
This season, at the prestigious head of the Schuylkill Regatta, the novice/freshmen won four-plus bronze medals with junior Alyssa Taylor being named All-CAA.

It was the third straight year the Hawks put two boats in the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta with the four-plus boat qualifying for next year. Additionally, this year's rowing senior class was the first to compete all four years for the Hawks.


Men's Soccer
Overall Record: 5-8-3
CAA Record: 2-3-3
Postseason Finish: CAA first round appearance

Highlights:
The men's soccer program clinched their third straight berth into the CAA Tournament after finishing with nine points and third-place regular season finish in the North Division.

Senior forward Jakob Friedman highlighted the year for the Hawks, as he earned Second Team All-CAA and Second Team All-Region by the United Soccer Coaches Association, and was awarded USC Scholar All-American, landing on second team. He finished the year with a team-best 16 points, notching team-highs in both goals (4) and assists (8). Freshman goalkeeper Herman Johnson finished second in the CAA with a .778 save percentage as he helped the team to two shutouts on the season.

This past spring, Friedman and graduate defender Cam Lawrence went on to sign professional contracts with the Minnesota United FC 2 and the Union Omaha, respectively.
 

Women's Soccer
Overall Record: 10-6-2
CAA Record: 5-3-1
Postseason Finish: CAA first round appearance

Highlights:
The Hawks women's soccer program won 10-plus games for the fifth consecutive season as they earned a spot in the CAA Tournament for the fourth year in a row, along with their 14th straight postseason appearance. They ended 2025 10-6-2 overall and 5-3-1 in the CAA to clinch the CAA North Division regular season title en route to clinching the program's second straight regular season championship.

Through the year, the Hawks won a season-best five-straight games on two separate occasions for the first time in program history. During that streak, which ran from Sept. 28 to Oct. 16, the team out-scored its opponents, 13-2 which all came against conference opposition.

Senior forward Summer Reimet and junior midfielder Chloe Messer both earned First Team All-CAA honors, while sophomore defender Grace Notarfrancesco, sophomore forward/midfielder Ashley Lavrich and freshman forward Evangeline Perdomo joined them on the All-CAA list, landing on second, third and All-Rookie squads, respectively. The five selects marked the fourth consecutive year since the Hawks joined the CAA prior to the 2022 that they had at least five honorees on the postseason all-conference quad.


Softball
Overall Record: 20-31
CAA Record: 10-14
Postseason Finish: n/a

Highlights:
The Hawks softball program totaled the most wins since the 2021 season and the most since joining the CAA while earning its first sweep over conference rival Towson University April 17-19.

Freshman pitcher Carah Sumpter and senior infield/outfield Mackenzie Bloss both received all conference recognition with Sumpter becoming the first, First-Team CAA recipient in program history while also landing on the All-Rookie Team. She was a force in the circle and batter's box, batting a .309 while posting a 6-5 record with a team-best 3.84 ERA in her first season with the Hawks. Bloss was a second team All-CAA selection for the second time in her career after leading the team offensively, batting .359 and a career-high 55 hits and seven home runs, while also surpassing 100 career hits.

Redshirt senior pitcher Alissa Eimont, junior pitcher Izzy Bonacci, sophomore infielder Ella Stevinson, sophomore outfielder Kylee McLain were all named to the College Sports Communicators All-District team.
 

Men's Swimming
CAA Finish: fifth out of five teams

Highlights:
The Hawks swimming programs combined for nine school records during the CAA Championships this winter. On the men's side, Izan Arroyo Lopez Del Castillo won bronze at the conference meet in the 1,650-freestyle and was named as the CAA Rookie of the Year. Throughout the four-day event, he broke a school record three times.

The Hawks broke a record in the 200-medley, as the team of Trevor Nolan, Owen Dyson, Evan Belmont and Andrew Denman-Grimm clocked in with a time of 1:29.08 with the previous record standing since 2023. The team of Dyson, Nolan, Victor Pottier Ibanez and Arroyo Lopez del Castillo set a team-best time in the 400-IM.


Women's Swimming
CAA Finish: eighth out of eight teams

Highlights:
Monmouth swimming combined for nine school records during the CAA Championships highlighted by Baily Rynkiewicz who set a school record in the 400-intermediate medley twice at the conference meet. Jenna Pryne set a school record in the 200-IM with a time of 2:05.88, while Bailey Rynkiewicz broke the program's 400-IM record on the women's side with a time of 4:29.80.
 

Men's Tennis
Overall Record: 14-5
CAA Record: 1-1

Highlights:
The Hawks men's tennis program posted at least 14 wins for the sixth consecutive year after finishing with an overall record of 14-5.

Graduate student Louis Keller and sophomore Jakob Bonnett both earned a spot on the All-CAA list with Keller earning second team honors in singles and doubles, while Bonnett was honored as a third team singles pick and second team All-CAA doubles selection.

Keller advanced to the Round of 16 at the ITA Regionals, while Bonnett went 16-6 on the year at No. 2 and No. 3 singles.

Men's Tennis excelled in the classroom, as they were awarded three selections to the CSC All-District Team and finished with the highest semester GPA for any team in school history after collectively averaging a 3.88 this past semester while tallying a cumulative average of 3.85 to lead all 24 programs.
 

Women's Tennis
Overall Record: 3-15
CAA Record: 1-3

Highlights:
Senior Ximena Cano led the Hawks women's tennis program with nine singles victories this season with the doubles team of sophomores Pavitra Parikh and Faith Sadgrove pacing the team with eight doubles wins during the program's 2025-26 campaign.

The program clinched a CAA win over Hofstra, defeating their conference rival on the road, 4-3. They additionally had victories over Holy Cross, 6-1 and Lafayette, 4-3.

The team also had three selections to the CSC All-District team.
 

Men's Track & Field
CAA Indoor Finish: fifth of eight teams
CAA Outdoor Finish: third of nine teams

Highlights:
Graduate Evan Niedrowski was the highlight from this past year as he worked back from an arm injury to qualify for his third national championship in javelin. After a two-year hiatus, rehabbing he made his return May 1 at the Larry Ellis Invitational where he won back-to-back gold medals before throwing a meet record of 71.87 at the CAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. At the NCAA East Regional, Niedrowski officially landed back on the national stage after throwing a 66.18 to earn a top 12 standing to advance to the NCAA Division 1 Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon June 10. While at the national meet, he placed 21 st overall after throwing a 67.75m.

During the indoor season, the Hawks set eight freshman records as a collective with junior Aiden Baldelli setting a program record in the 60-meter dash after crossing in 6.71 seconds, while also setting a new program mark in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.24.

At the CAA Outdoor Championships, freshman Gavin Nelson secured gold after a 2.12-meter mark in the high jump, while also setting a new program record in the event. Freshman Eddie Frey set the Monmouth freshman record on the pole vault, clearing 4.75 for a second-place finish. Senior Aaron Brooks (long jump), senior Rondé Washington (shot put), sophomore Andrew Beers (400m hurdles) and junior Garrett Boag (decathlon) also found their way onto the podium, each winning bronze.


Women's Track & Field
CAA Indoor Finish: seventh of 12 teams
CAA Outdoor Finish: third of 11 teams

Highlights:
The Hawks had a hot start to the outdoor season, setting three program records within the first three meets of the season. Freshman Payton Campbell set a program mark at the Sam Howell Invitational in the women's 10K with a time of 35.24.49, while sophomore Krissy Sarnicola earned a 10:41.64 in the steeple chase at the event with junior Emily Simko clocking in with a 9:37.50 in the 3K at the I-C-4-A Championships.

On the women's side at the outdoor championships, Sarnicola finished second in steeple chase to land on the podium, while freshman Jonelle Lewis and freshman Genesis Castro each setting new program freshmen records in the 100-meter and hammer throw, respectively. Junior Julie Thomas brought home gold in shot put, throwing a CAA winning length of 15.34. Nelson and freshman Maggie Hanson, who threw for a program record in discus earlier in the year, both qualified for the NCAA Mid-East Regional meet.
